Project Accountant II – Fiscal Sponsorship Operations – Tides – New York, NY

Position Summary:

The Project Accountant II works with group members to provide financial services to a caseload of Tides fiscal sponsorship clients. This position requires extensive client service related contact.

Reporting to the Financial Services Supervisor, the Project Accountant II is an exempt position. Exempt employees are expected to work the appropriate and necessary time in order to complete key assignments and related tasks on schedule.

This position is located in New York, New York.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Project Accountant II will be the primary liaison for projects’ financial needs and will be responsible for exceptional client service in the following areas:

Prepare periodic reconciliations of accounts
Analyze fund activity and ensure accuracy of allocations of funds to appropriate departments
Read grant agreements and proposals to determine reporting requirements and net asset classification.
Set up government grants in Financial Edge accounting system and filing system. Inputs grant budgets and other pertinent information into the system.
Provide financial data for inclusion in Grant Reports
Participate in the monitoring of financial compliance issues and grant guidelines
Produce routine and customized financial reports
Approve all cash disbursements
Provide expertise in budgeting and long range financial planning
Oversee compliance audits as required
Engage in direct contact with projects for purposes of financial training, consultation, problem-solving, and planning
Develop systems to streamline processes
Track, review, and provide guidance on projects’ revenue and expenditures
Monitor project cash flow and ensure compliance with Tides cash management policies
Establish and maintain internal controls over financial reporting
Provide leadership for systems implementation and other projects as assigned by management
    May be required to train and/or guide other team members

Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate complex accounting principles in simple terms
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to be both diplomatic and confident.
Ability to explain financial statements and accounting concepts to non-finance personnel.
Strong critical thinking and decision-making ability and able to financially sound determinations
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain reporting systems procedures and practices
The position requires the ability to manage a large volume of analytical work and multiple tasks within a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Education and Experience:

Undergraduate degree in accounting
3+ years of experience in a similar position
Non-profit accounting and government grants management experience preferred
