Occupational Therapist – New York – Fedcap Rehabilitation Services Inc

The Occupational Therapist is a qualified professional person who directs, supervises, evaluates, and provides occupational therapy services to patients in the home as prescribed by the attending physician.

Essential Functions:
Performs assessments of patient’s occupational therapy needs by medical order
Collaborates with the medical practitioner and patient to set therapy goals
Evaluates patients, and establishes goals, based on the patient’s current level of functioning and potential for improvement and performs re-evaluations as indicated.
Makes recommendations to the medical practitioner regarding the type, frequency and duration of occupational therapy treatment modalities to achieve desired goals
Implements occupational therapy treatment as ordered.
Guides and instructs the patient in prescribed therapeutic, self-care, and creative activities that are directed toward improving independence and physical and mental functioning.
Establishes household management routines
Records and reports to the physician and other health care professionals regarding the patient’s reaction to the therapy program or changes in the patient condition.
Keeps accurate, concise, complete, and timely records of the patient care and related activities
Instructs the patient and family in the use of prosthetic, orthodox, and assistive devices
Instructs the family in the total occupational therapy program
Instructs other health team personnel in the care of the patient with regard to the occupational therapy regime
Attends staff meetings, case conferences, and in-service programs as assigned
Participates in the agency Quality Improvement Program as assigned or appointed.
Maintains close liaison with the agency to ensure that all clients receive coordinated, efficient, supervised and integrated care and that all members of the health care team have access to information regarding the client’s treatment and progress.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Technical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to area in order to effectively communicate with physicians, health team members, patients and families
Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision, in order to independently carry out the duties of the position
Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Good communication and interpersonal skills, in order to communicate information to patients and families
Analytical skills necessary in order to be able to identify and report changes in patient’s condition and response to therapies
Knowledge of Occupational Therapy treatments and the ability to provide treatment

Education:
Graduate of an occupational therapy school approved by the Council of Medical Education of the AMA in collaboration with the American Occupational Therapy Association or its equivalents.

Registered by the American Occupational Therapy Association

Experience:
At least one year of supervised clinical experience in an institutional setting or home setting

Licensed and currently registered under Title VIII, Article 156 of the New York State Education Law to practice Occupational Therapy.
