Accountant (A/P) – Scion Nonprofit Staffing – San Francisco, CA

Scion Staffing, Inc. (www.scionstaffing.com), a full service national staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct the search for an Accountant (A/P) for our client, a prestigious leader in secondary education in the Bay Area. This position is located in San Francisco and is for direct hire.

JOB SUMMARY

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and processing accounting transactions and assisting the Controller with the monthly close of the general ledger and preparation of monthly reports. This position primarily provides operational support in accounts payable processing, and assists with cash and accounts receivable processing. The position requires excellent time management skill and attention to detail.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING:

Understands and works regularly with Blackbaud Financial Edge accounting system to maintain integrity of General Ledger, subsidiary modules, and related backup schedules.
Develops and implements practices and procedures related to Accounts Payable, including invoice processing and verification, expense coding, preparing payment checks, posting to the general ledger and maintenance of an accurate A/P filing system.
Assists with cash receipts processing, maintains cash receipt logs and/or bank deposit records.
Prepares account reconciliations, departmental budget reports, and other financial reports as needed.
Assists CFO and Controller in the preparation and presentation of operating financial reports, annual budget and other financial forecasts.
Assists in preparation of annual audit and other regulatory reports.
Consults and works with legal counsel, financial advisors, auditors, and other professional service firms as necessary and appropriate.

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Undergraduate degree in accounting with a minimum of two years related work experience.
Familiarity with not-for-profit management theory and practice, and not-for-profit accounting and reporting standards.
Experience using multi-user accounting software; familiarity with Blackbaud a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is essential.
Previous experience in an educational environment is preferred, but not required.

NECESSARY SKILLS and ABILITIES

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles required.
Experience with management information systems, particularly automated accounting systems.
Excellent communication skills, including listening as well as oral and written expression.

COMPENSATION

$65k to $70k; DOE
