Scion Nonprofit Staffing (www.scionnonprofitstaffing.com) has been engaged to conduct the search for an Accountant for our client, a prestigious academic institution in Oakland, CA. This is a contract role estimated for approximately 4 months duration.
OVERVIEW
The Accountant is directly responsible for the functional accounting responsibilities, coordination, and evaluation of the billing function for the organization and providing excellent customer service on behalf of the Business Office. The person in this position is expected to contribute at both a strategic and operational level in order to identify Accounting priorities and recommend appropriate strategies that support the organization’s goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as primary contact for all billing related activities.
Generate monthly journal entries, issue all invoices and reconcile all accounts.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned by Finance Director.
Responsible for closing the books each month and at year end, ensuring the proper recognition and recording of all financial transactions by the set timelines.
Responsible for the preparation of monthly reconciliations on all balance sheet accounts and other accounts each month.
Responsible for preparing the monthly financial reports for The Director of Finance and other special reports as needed.
Responsible for preparing and maintaining the 3rd party and student reconciliations on a monthly basis.
Ensure all schedules and work papers are prepared and ready for the annual financial and bank audits.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and experience working with MIP accounting software is required.
Considerable knowledge of Accounting principles and GAAP.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
Independent thinker, possess excellent customer service skills, professional attitude, a high level of personal integrity, maturity, and business judgment required.
Able to multi-task, prioritize task, meet deadlines, able to do presentations and to maintain confident information.
Strong analytical skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be a well-organized professional who thrives in a team-oriented environment.
Self-starter. Capability of effective planning and priority setting.
Ability to maintain close and effective personal working relationships at all levels of the organization.
Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
COMPENSATION
$30/hour.
This is a 30-40 hour/week contract role for approximately 4 months
