The Diocese of Long Island is seeking an Accounting Assistant that is an energetic, self-motivating person with strong computer skills and a good analytical aptitude to assist the Director of Finance. The Accounting Department supports the work of the Diocese in the area of budgets, financial reports, audits, compliance and the Diocese Investment Fund. It is comprised of a Director plus a full and a part-time assistant. All members of the team are expected to handle all functions of the department in the absence of a team member.
General Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable – Assign or verify budget codes on accounts payable invoices, post them to the accounting system, obtain approval for payment and prepare checks for mailing. Process recurring monthly obligations according to schedule.
Accounts Receivable – On a weekly basis, process checks received for deposit and process credit card receivables.
Annual Diocese Audit – assist auditors with requests for check payments, bank deposits or reconciled bank statements.
All other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting or Finance;
three years of experience;
Exceptionally strong organizational, communication and computer skills; and
Demonstrated flexibility and comfort in working in a diverse environment.
