Analyst, Donor Communications Team – Room to Read – San Francisco, CA

Organization Profile:

Room to Read seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments, we develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond.

We are non-governmental, non-religious and work with many local NGOs and community based organizations to implement our programs. We currently work in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Vietnam, and Zambia – countries with a desperate lack of resources to educate their children. Since our inception, Room to Read’s worldwide team has impacted over 7.8 million children by constructing more than 1,700 schools, establishing over 16,000 libraries, publishing 882 new children’s book titles in 27 local languages, and reaching over 25,000 girls through our Girls’ Education program.

Room to Read has an annual budget of approximately US$44 million and our global staff numbers over 600. Our global headquarters is located in San Francisco, and we have smaller fundraising offices in Delhi, New York, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, Sydney, and Tokyo. We have program offices in Colombo, Dar es Salaam, Dhaka, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Kathmandu, Lusaka, New Delhi, Pretoria, Phnom Penh, and Vientiane.

Position Overview:

The Analyst, Donor Communications is a member of the Donor Communications team, and supports report and proposal writing, database management, and other communications, as needed. This position will report to the Manager, Donor Communications and Grants Administration, and will also work closely with other Donor Communication team members, and Relationship Managers who work directly with our donors.

The Analyst, Donor Communications is responsible for managing our grant cycle tracking tool in our Salesforce database, as well as documenting and tracking fundraising efforts using our Raiser’s Edge database. As part of the Donor Communications team, this person will support the creation of reports and proposals and take on additional donor communications and development projects, as needed. In addition, he/she will be responsible for working on process improvements related to grants administration and donor communications.

This is an exciting opportunity for candidates who have an interest in major donor fundraising and donor communications. This is a full-time position located in San Francisco.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Manage fundraisers’ use of the grants administration module in Salesforce by liaising with IT for all systems changes, running reports, maintaining accurate records of grant proposals and grant reports, tracking deadlines for all donor documentation, training and troubleshooting for global Development team, and ensuring that documentation is up-to-date and available to our worldwide teams.
Write reports and proposals, and work on other forms of development department communications, as needed.
Propose and implement process improvements as they relate to grants administration with the Corporate/Foundation fundraisers and other teams in the Development Department.
Coordinate the logistics of mass mailings for fundraisers including the following tasks: printing of letters, coordinating volunteers, and ensuring the timely delivery of all major communication pieces.
Coordinate donor communications for major donor trips and plan logistics in conjunction with the Development Operations/Donor Engagement Associate.
Other duties as necessary.

Qualifications:
Required:

Bachelors degree
1-2 years general work experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization
Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
Adept at using Excel and Word
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Strong attention to detail and extremely organized
Flexibility and ability to multi-task
Proven track record of achieving results
Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative
Legally eligible to work in the United States; no sponsorship provided

Preferred:

Experience working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low overhead
Experience working with databases, specifically Raiser’s Edge and Salesforce
Experience living or working internationally
Experience with grants administration, especially related to Corporate and/or Foundation donors
Experience writing content-rich documentation
