Billing Supervisor – Planned Parenthood Northern California – Concord, CA

PPNorCal is currently seeking a full-time Billing Supervisor at the Concord Administrative Office.

As a member of the Billing team, the Billing Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Director of Revenue Cycle in the management of the accounts receivable and insurance billing functions. The supervisor will have six direct reports and be responsible for creating and maintaining a cohesive and effective team environment. The Billing Supervisor reports to the Director of Revenue Cycle Management and is an integral part of the Billing department.

This is an exempt, full-time position, working 40 hours per week. Salary is DOE. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes Medical, ETO and a 403B!

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Perform/coordinate/supervise timely, accurate billing of all Medi-Cal, Medicare and third party payers, track and collect outstanding accounts receivable.
Provide effective leadership, coaching and mentoring of staff in an effort to identify and implement opportunities to maximize office collections and improve posting and billing processes/methods.
Create environment for knowledge transfer and cross-training and provide staff with assistance in performing difficult or complicated duties.
Oversee and interact with team members in regards to assigned administrative operations. This includes but is not limited to plan eligibility, fees, pre-authorizations, billing, auditing, and claims follow-up.
Perform/coordinate/supervise Explanation of Benefits (EOB) posting to assure posting upon receipt.
Participate in special payer reimbursement projects as they arise.
Assist in determining billing requirements of new Managed Medi-Cal and/or commercial contracts; ensure correct coding.
Assist in maintaining relationships with contracted payers.
Consult with medical services staff to coordinate changes to patient management software.
Evaluate billing and collections systems regularly and make recommendations for continued quality improvement.
Report weekly to Director of RCM detailing accomplishments, areas for improvement, clear performance goals, and effectiveness of systems.
Ensure compliance with PPNorCal policies, as well as State, Federal and other regulatory bodies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One to two years’ experience with direct supervision of staff REQUIRED.
Experience working with practice management systems (preferably NextGen) and third party billing/coding, especially with Medi-Cal.
Directly supervises six employees in the Billing Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), Knowledge of Electronic Health Records/Electronic Practice Management systems (NextGen experienced preferred).
Demonstrated proficiency in the organization’s practice management system including the ability to be a resource for staff regarding basic trouble shooting, building profiles, triaging technical problems and utilizing resources as needed.
In-depth knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 and various payer sources, especially Medi-cal.
Acceptance and application of the confidential nature of the position.
10-key proficiency by touch.
Strong communication (verbal and written), decision-making, time management and organizational skills.
