Full-Time, Permanent Position at an Innovative Growing Nonprofit
Who We Are:
BAYCAT is an innovative media production company for socially conscious clients who want high quality video production, design, branding and marketing-related services. All proceeds from BAYCAT STUDIO support BAYCAT ACADEMY which educates, empowers and employs low income youth, youth of color and young women coming primarily from Bayview and the Bay Area in the digital media arts. Our unique hybrid nonprofit social enterprise model strategically positions BAYCAT to address academic achievement gaps, job training, and economic development needs that are amplified by the digital divide.
Now in it’s 11th year, BAYCAT has educated over 3,000 youth, employed over 125 young adults, and internship is placing 88% of our graduates to media-related jobs. BAYCAT STUDIO clients range from nonprofits and local merchants to the SFPUC, UCSF, City of SF, The San Francisco Foundation, Golden State Warriors, and The 50 Fund, Super Bowl 50’s nonprofit arm.
What We Care About:
Creating positive social change through storytelling, design & media.
Giving a voice to those misrepresented or underrepresented.
Doing Well and Doing Good. We’re a sustainable nonprofit business model.
Excellence. Highest Quality of Services in Education and Media Production.
Building Community, Inclusion & Equity.
What We Are Looking For:
At the core of every organization, is a person who makes sure that all the fiscal, resource and operational needs are anticipated and easily taken care of. Reporting to the VP of Academy and Studio, the Business and Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing all fiscal and operational management for BAYCAT, which includes managing all accounting, budgeting, forecasting and resource needs for our fast-growing nonprofit social enterprise.
On an average day, you may be juggling a forecasting project of how to effectively manage the cost of producing our design projects, to talking to equipment vendors for both inkind donations or negotiating our latest lease of computer equipment, finding the best pricing for our directors & officers liability insurance and conducting an orientation for our newest group of student interns.
Who You Are: You’re a numbers geek that has a heart; you’re naturally inclined to figure out ROIs on the normal parts of our business, but also excited to think about the impossible things to measure, like the value of seeing our students create their first video. While people talk in circles, you like to organize thoughts into to-do lists. You can take complex “what if” business ideas and turn them into efficient spreadsheets with fixed and variable cells that make it easy to create a plan and to offer solutions. You love managing and working with people and making others people’s lives easier. You value creating infrastructure and taking care of the resources you have.
You’re GREAT at:
Accounting and Quickbooks. You’ve managed other companies’ books for over 3 years.
Auditing and fiscal monitoring. As a nonprofit, we’re held to the highest standards.
Personnel management. It’s exciting to work with a range of permanent employees, to temporary contractors to helping young intern graduates with their first job.
Building relationships with vendors. Negotiating contracts. You love a deal, and you know what it takes to build a relationship that lasts.
You’re AWESOME at:
Communicating Effectively. Be it through numbers or words. You’re clear, concise, professional and love to simplify complex ideas into simple communications that everyone can understand.
Problem Solving. There’s never enough money, time or resources at a nonprofit.
Initiating & Planning. You’re able to anticipate needs ahead of time, create a plan and execute.
Collaborating. You prefer the word “we” more than “me.” We do a LOT for a small team, and that is because we work as a team, both internally, and with many, many partners.
You Might Also Have:
Worked at a nonprofit or a social enterprise.
Volunteered on a nonprofit Board.
Managed a team yourself.
Several languages that you can speak.
Made it “big” in the corporate setting, and are ready to give back.
What You’ll Be Paid:
We’d love to pay you what the big companies pay, but we can’t do that yet. You’ll help us get there. For now, we’re competitive with other nonprofits our size. Our package will be based on your experience and includes benefits like health, dental, vision, flexible spending account (FSA), life insurance, and 403(b) retirement plan.
EOE. We Strive for a Workforce as Diverse as the Community We Serve.
Women, people of color, and LGBTQ individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.
