The Center for Land‐Based Learning inspires and motivates people of all ages, especially youth, to promote a healthy interplay between agriculture, nature and society through their actions and as leaders in their communities. We serve high schools students and adults through our experiential programs in 20 California counties and at our Farm on Putah Creek educational site near Winters, CA. Our California Farm Academy beginning farmer training program and farm business incubator has provided hands-on education, mentorship, land for lease and marketing support for over 80 new farmers to date.

Land-Based Learning is hiring a part-time (0.5 FTE) Controller, based at our main office at 5265 Putah Creek Road, Winters CA, or potentially our new office in West Sacramento, which opens in August 2015. This is a new position at the Center for Land-Based Learning, and we are very excited to add this staff person to the team of 14 full-time and 3 part-time staff.
Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Manage cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts.
Prepare annual budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and other senior staff.
Establish guidelines for budget forecast and preparation.
Prepare all supporting information for annual audit/review, as well as work with the Board Treasurer and Executive Director on financial reporting as required at board meetings.
Ensure compliance with fiscal statutory requirements. This includes maintaining charitable tax-exempt status, sales and use tax compliance, payroll reporting and related tax compliance and information return compliance (i.e. annual 990 tax filing, 1099 reporting) and any other local and state reporting compliance.
Supervise and support accounting staff including goal setting and performance management.
Safeguard fiscal resources and develop and adhere to all internal control policies and procedures designed to prevent and detect theft and misuse of funds.

A dedicated professional with experience managing and leading who has the ability to perform a wide variety of complex and specialized accounting work.
A person with substantial experience in audit compliance and understanding of GAAP, payroll administration, financial analysis, and management of actual to budget reporting system.
Someone with knowledge of a full range of business functions and systems including strategic planning, information technology, budgeting, and business analysis.
A skillful communicator with ability to build relationships and influence at all levels.
An innovative problem-solver who has experience making recommendations, working well under pressure, and leading change within an organization.
Education and Experience Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in accounting
Experience in non-profit accounting and related accounting standards.
Five or more years of management-level accounting responsibility
Certified Public Accountant preferred
Previous supervisory experience
Excellent computer and database skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, QuickBooks)
