SUMMARY:
The Controller will manage the daily accounting functions and staff of the agency in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform a variety of day to day accounting functions, which include: maintaining general ledger accounts, reconciling cash accounts, generating monthly financial statements; entering recurring journal entries.
Provide support and guidance to staff responsible for accounts payable and payroll, and back up these functions when necessary.
Provide technical assistance to administrators, program and center staff when questions arise about financial reports, audits and other accounting related issues.
Manage all aspects of annual Agency audit, including preparation of all required schedules,trial balance, and footnote disclosures.
Monitor approximately 60 government funding contracts, invoice monthly/quarterly, and provide other reports, as necessary, required by funders.
Manage accounts receivable for government contracts.
Manage staff accountants to include (but not limited to) performance management, teambuilding, training/mentoring, and use of resources. Resolve/address employee issues, problems and concerns and inform CFO as needed. Maintain a high quality and diverse staff.
Complete written performance evaluations for all staff accountants at the end of their six-month orientation period and annually thereafter.
Assist the Chief Financial Officer in the preparation of the annual budget.
Assist the Chief Financial Officer with providing internal audits at the senior centers and as needed with programs.
Actively support the agency’s efforts to undo institutional racism, build equity and inclusion, and serve an increasingly diverse population. Integrate anti-racism principles and equitable action plans, which includes:
Demonstrating an eagerness to learn and enhance skills that promote equity and inclusion;
Fostering discussion and learning among staff to better understand and undo institutional racism and other forms of oppression;
Incorporating equity and inclusion standards into all hiring processes and performance evaluations;
Enabling staff and self to fully engage in activities/events related to building equity and inclusion and addressing institutional racism and other forms of oppression.
Other duties or projects as necessary and/or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Baccalaureate degree in accounting, finance or other related field required. CPA preferred. Four (4) years accounting management work experience may be substituted for the degree.
A minimum of three (3) years recent accounting office experience, preferably in a non profit environment.
A minimum of two (2) years hands-on experience working with Great Plains Dynamics software (desirable) or comparable software program.
Must be highly proficient with Excel software and be able to export and import data between the accounting system and Excel worksheets.
Experience preparing all schedules required for a financial audit.
Two years supervisory experience preferred.
Must have the ability to work with staff who may have limited knowledge of accounting systems/terminology, but a need to understand reports and information.
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to work as a team member and motivate others to work collaboratively.
Demonstrated experience working with a wide variety of people of racially and culturally diverse backgrounds.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
$65,000-$75,000 (annualized) plus great benefits.
