About the Metropolitan Opera Guild
The Metropolitan Opera Guild is seeking a Controller to join its finance team. The Guild supports the Metropolitan Opera Association through charitable contributions, membership dues and other support. The Guild also encourages the appreciation of opera by providing a network of music and arts education programs to over 1,200 schools and communities worldwide along with the 100k+ distribution of the monthly publication Opera News. The Guild’s annual operating budget is $8M.

Summary Position Description
The Controller reports to the Director of Finance and Administration. The successful candidate will be a hands-on and participative manager and strategic thinker, and will lead the following areas: accounting, accounts payable and financial reporting.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise the monthly financial close process.
Review and prepare financial statements, variance reports and various analyses.
Issue timely monthly financial statements.
Work with banks and external auditors.
Ensure that monthly bank reconciliations are completed in a timely manner. Review journal entries and adjustments for accuracy.
Maintain the accounting and financial reporting system.
Prepare periodic reports for the Board of Directors and Board Committees.
Qualifications
Demonstrated leadership ability.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required. MBA or CPA a plus.
Minimum of 5 years related experience required. Experience in a not-for-profit organization strongly preferred.
Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains software desirable.
Ability to work with a small staff in a small organization.
Compensation based on experience.
