POSITION TITLE: Development Associate

SALARY RANGE: $34,320 to $39,170 Level I

CLASSIFICATION: Executive, regular, full-time, non-exempt

RESPONSIBILITIES: The development associate for the National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA) is responsible for the administration and implementation of NICWA’s long and short range fund development strategies, including revenue goals, long term sustainability, and ensuring organizational capability to execute comprehensive development activities. The following specific responsibilities must be carried out:

Assists in the planning, development, implementation, and recording/reporting of comprehensive fundraising approaches and strategies, including database management related to all fund development activities, membership, event planning and implementation support, donor cultivation, prospect research, proposal development support, liaising with ad hoc entities
Incorporates relationship cultivation and stewardship strategies into their work with internal and external partners, utilizing professional communication skills to articulate NICWA’s mission accurately in person, via phone, and in writing
Works as part of a development team with the development director, member relations manager, and executive communications manager to ensure all aspects of NICWA’s fundraising efforts are collaborative and cohesive

DUTIES

Provides research, logistics, and donor cultivation support reflective of the department’s development and implementation plan that include activities such as major gifts, foundation and corporate grants, tribal giving, individual solicitation, strategic membership building, events management, and cause related/social marketing campaigns
Monitors and tracks fundraising activities by NICWA staff, board of directors, contractors and volunteers through the maintenance of records, including individual, tribal, corporate, and foundation within the department’s relational database, Raiser’s Edge
Develops database manual, creating data entry standards and integrating moves management approach to donor tracking systems in Raiser’s Edge
Supports fund development administration including donor prospect research and qualification, donor cultivation and communication, grant application research including the maintenance of the grant calendar and tracking system, letters of intent (LOI) and proposal development including timely submissions, and gift acknowledgement processes
Supports the execution of fundraising and donor cultivation events, including data entry, guest tracking, in kind solicitation, coordination with outside vendors, donor and board member communication, on-site event support, and subsequent post clean-up
Develops and maintains mailing list and mail house services, and monitors and develops Raiser Edge dashboards to track and analyze responses from specific campaigns such as direct mail and membership drive
Assists the member relations manager with membership development and member level upgrades, assists in campaign design to expand membership of identified targeted groups
Assists the development director with board giving by monitoring dollar and in-kind contributions and board communications
Supports publication development, website maintenance, and social media campaign implementation as needed and directed
Promotes current and future development activities through liaising with outside groups, attending relevant community meetings, and effectively representing NICWA with the public as needed and directed
Manages in-kind donation efforts, including inquiries, qualification, pick-up/delivery and disbursement in concert with program staff
Assists with government contract administration as needed and directed
Other duties as assigned, including participation on various internal teams

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate or bachelor’s degree in business management, social services, or related fields, or equivalent specialized experience
1-2 years prior development experience or equivalent experience; demonstrated track record of fundraising achievement; knowledge of grant submission and gift entry processes; experience with event planning and management
Database management experience (Raiser’s Edge strongly preferred) and ability to capably use other software programs, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Demonstrated strong ability to communicate orally, especially in an effective and timely manner, including skill in telling a story and promoting a cause
Strong knowledge of Indian culture, Indian Country, social service systems, and policy structure
Demonstrated relationship building skills; ability to meet with, solicit the cooperation of, and deal professionally and effectively with individuals and organizations with potential funding capacity
Ability to write clearly and present ideas, concepts, and principles consistently and understandably
Demonstrated strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Can capably operate a variety of office equipment, such as a computer, photocopier, scanner, printer, postage meter, etc.
Ability to occasionally work long hours, including some evening and weekends as necessary
Ability to move 25-30 lb. items
Ability to travel approximately 5% of the work year and has a valid driver’s license
