Development Director – Healing Across the Divides – Northampton, MA

Healing Across the Divides is a 501c3 that works to improve the health of marginalized communities in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. We are currently recruiting a Development Director to work with HATD’s leadership in setting our eleven year-old organization on a secure and sustainable financial footing. Compensation is highly competitive.

Position Summary

The Development Director will design and implement effective multi-year strategies and plans for identifying, cultivating and soliciting major donors, including individuals, foundations and corporations. S/he will be responsible for securing significant financial resources in support of HATD’s programmatic goals through direct “asks,” written proposals, and related supporting materials. The Development Director will build a pipeline of qualified donor prospects with the goal of significantly expanding HATD’s donor base and maximize giving by current donors. S/he will be responsible for instituting systems, practices and processes that will support the growth of HATD’s development program. The Development Director will work closely with HATD’s executive director, board of directors and staff to implement strategy. This is a remote four-day per week position that can be filled from anywhere in the United States.

Primary Responsibilities

Develop and institutionalize a major gifts fundraising program.
Establish fundraising objectives for one to five years.
Research and identify new major gift prospects.
Cultivate relationships with existing and prospective donors and ensure ongoing donor engagement with HATD’s mission, developing plans of action tailored to audience.
Persuasively convey, verbally and in writing, the mission of HATD to diverse groups important to the organization’s success.
Strengthen HATD’s capacity to compete for funding in coordination with relevant stakeholders via strategic thinking, analysis of market competition, and an understanding of the organization’s strengths and added value.
Develop and maintain a schedule of activities and track progress toward goals.
Assist board members and other leadership in effectively engaging with donors.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum ten years experience in development, with a proven track record of securing funding from individuals and foundations.
Experience working with social justice, human rights, women’s rights, and/or community-based health organizations, preferably within the context of Middle East peace and Israel/Palestine reconciliation.
Strong commitment to and passion for HATD’s mission and the ability to articulate the importance of the organization’s work to prospective and current funders.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate, develop and maintain relationships with potential new funders.
Ability to work under pressure with little supervision.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to present numerical data clearly and effectively.
Ability to handle emotionally and politically charged topics with professionalism, poise and confidentiality.
Proficiency in English. Additional proficiency in Arabic and/or Hebrew is highly desirable.
