Wilderness Workshop seeks a motivated individual to join our bright, passionate, fun-loving, high functioning and collaborative team. The DevelopmentDirector will work with the rest of the WW team to tell our compelling story of public lands conservation in order to broaden and deepen our support at the local, regional and statewide levels.

Position Summary

The Development Director is a full-time position…with flexibility. S/he works under the direct supervision of the Executive Director. S/he is responsible for creating the WW’s fundraising strategy and for raising the necessary funding through major gifts, grants, membership development, and other donations. The Development Director collaborates with other staff and board members in developing and implementing successful brand marketing strategies and campaigns that enhance development opportunities and grow membership.

Position Responsibilities

Fundraising: Work with Executive Director, other staff and board members to create and update fundraising strategy; research, cultivate, solicit, thank and update major donors; grow WW’s national council (the Maroon Bells Circle) through house parties, receptions, hikes and events; maintain donor records; plan and create fundraising appeals and materials; create and maintain online fundraising pages and content; grow planned-giving and business-sponsorship programs; explore strategies to access new sources of funding.
Grant development: in collaboration with communications staff write grant applications; research foundations; maintain grant calendar including application and report deadlines; and work with other staff to identify grant opportunities; write grant reports.
Membership/database functions: in collaboration with the Operations & Outreach Coordinator and other staff ensure that donor/member data entered on regular basis and database is maintained; donation acknowledgments and renewal reminders are sent on timely basis; and that new-member packet mailings, prospect mailings, bank deposits, etc. occur as needed. Produce database queries/reports as needed.
Branding and marketing: work with Executive Director to strategically develop and build WW’s organizational brand; coordinate and assist other staff in creating marketing materials and strategies, fundraising eblasts and social media communications that enhance fundraising.
Revenue reporting: liaise with bookkeeper and treasurer on tracking revenues; supply regular donation/fundraising updates to board and E.D.
Board relations: serve as staff liaison to the Outreach and Fundraising Committees; organize donor meetings and requests in collaboration with Board Members.

Salary/Benefits

$60,000-65,000 starting salary. Benefits – $500/month health stipend, work flex, generous vacation package, wellness, comp, and occasional powder days; IRA.
