General Summary:
The Director of Development provides fundraising management for William E. Doar, Jr. PCS for the Performing Arts (WEDJ) by orchestrating the overall management of board development, corporate & foundation relations , general fundraising, and grant writing .This includes gift processing and acknowledgements, prospect management, strategic planning, and other data maintenance activities. This position works closely with the Head of Operations and the school leaders to execute fund development goals, programs and plans.
Essential Job Functions: Board Development: Provide staff support to Board of Directors in their work to obtain private donations, identify, cultivate, steward, and solicit existing and additional donors, as well as developing a prospect lists of potential donors Work closely with the PTA , Board of Directors to target specific fundraising projects Work with resource development committee of the board to reach fundraising goals. Maintain close contact with the board to maximize board effectiveness.
Corporate & Foundation Giving: Build a pipeline to cultivate, solicit, and maintain a portfolio of individual and corporate donors and prospects with the capacity to give gifts of over $10,000 Identify and qualify — through research and relationship building — 30-50 local and national foundation and corporate prospects annually. Identify and secure new corporate partnerships Deliver the corporate fundraising annual income and expenditure budget contributing to the overall fundraising target for WEDJ in line with the department’s business plan and fundraising strategy. Producing monthly financial reports and summaries will be required.
General Fundraising: Design and implement donor appreciation and cultivation events and activities. Establish at least one annual special event. Raise salary plus $100,000 in donations by end of fiscal year.
Grant Writing & Compliance: Apply for one grant per month with a 60 percent success rate by the end of the fiscal year. Documents weekly progress towards grant and donation goals
Donor Administration: Coordinate gift processing and acknowledgements of donations to the school Maintain donor database, reporting and data analysis, as well as foundation, corporation, and individual donor files.
Knowledge/Abilities Required Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Development, Advancement, and Fundraising Superior writing skills, with specific background in grant writing Demonstrate strong organizational skills Excellent oral and written communication skills, ideally in more than one language Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team environment Have a comprehensive understanding of the overall operation of a Development department Appreciate and understand the School’s Mission and commitment to child-centered education Must have valid driver license and reliable transportation.
Education Requirements: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
