Director of Special Events – YMCA of Greater New York

The YMCA of Greater New York reaches half a million New Yorkers through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We are seeking an experienced professional to provide leadership to the Association’s fund raising special events and key meetings. The Director is responsible for developing a strategy to deliver first-rate special events, resulting in an increase of funds raised and the effective positioning of the YMCA within the philanthropic community.

Responsibilities:

Develop and implement an overall special event fundraising strategy and leadership prospecting program, to achieve the stated objectives for each event.
Create and maintain effective relationships with key leadership positions including event chairs, co-chairs and honorees.
Create appropriate systems enabling the solicitation of event donor, effective stewardship, acknowledgement and recognition of all donors.
Be actively engaged with the entire YMCA Fund Development team, to support all aspects of fund development program including, supporting movement of event donors to major and annual donors.
Work with senior leaders within the YMCA, including Branch Development Directors, in a concerted effort to ensure all special fund raising events meet the highest standards and their revenue objectives.
Manage the execution of all event related collateral publications including invitations, journals, etc.
Establish with the Vice President, event budgets and specific timeline expectations for each function. Be responsible for effective solicitations initiatives, designed to achieve the agreed upon objectives.
Responsible for the effective management and stewardship of event leadership and volunteers.
Effectively manage all relationships with event vendors including venues, printers, audio visual companies, entertainment and mail houses.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 5 years of development experience with an emphasis on special event management.
Proven track record in building, shaping and working within a sophisticated development structure.
Demonstrated success in asking for and closing event contributions and maintaining long-term relationships with special event donors.
Familiarity with New York City marketplace; ability to identify high potential event donors.
Ability to manage multiple projects and other tasks in a fast paced environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must be computer literate with MS Word and Excel skills.
