JOB TITLE: Director of Strategic Partnerships

Part-time (25hrs/week) (expanded hours in the future)

Ruby’s Place Background

Ruby’s Place is a non-profit agency in Hayward, California that has provided shelter and supportive services since 1972 for women and children who experience domestic violence, homelessness and more recently human trafficking. Ruby’s Place was one of the first shelters for women and children in the Bay Area established by community volunteers who saw a need for these services. Our diverse staff have kept this agency’s mission alive for 40 years. The Vision of Ruby’s Place is safe and stable families, one person at a time. The Mission of Ruby’s Place to provide prevention and supportive services to the community and people impacted by domestic violence, human trafficking or homelessness.

Duties, Experience and Skills Required:

Fundraising

Actively work with the ED and Board Development Committee to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, and individual support
Oversee a grants management system that includes writing and/or reviewing all funding proposals and reports for government and private foundations.
Ensure all communications materials, both printed and digital, are effective and reflect a high-degree of quality and accuracy at all times
Oversee research funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position Ruby’s Place ahead of major funding changes or trends
Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to board and senior leaders
Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors
Monitor and report key fundraising deliverables and performance measures of the development program
Oversee the details of annual fundraising events, including local receptions.
Conduct research and prospecting of multiple donor sources
Secure financial support from individuals and foundations raising $200,000.
Develop and track all proposals and reports for all government grants, foundation and individual fundraising

Team Management and Leadership

Oversee relationships with any consultants hired to execute Development and Communications strategies
Identify and hire new staff members, while ensuring professional development and effective mentorship of development staff.
Work in concert with the Executive Director, Board of Directors and its Development Committee to deepen the Board’s fundraising effectiveness
Oversee all department activities related to ongoing day-to-day fundraising efforts including implementation of a donor relations and stewardship program; oversee gift processing, record keeping, and reporting

Ability to construct, articulate, and implement both short- and long-term strategic partnership plans.
Project Leadership: Lead and manage development projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress to senior managers/board of directors
Marketing Savvy: Skilled at brand placement, market expansion, donor acquisition, social media campaigns and brand awareness
Create powerful, compelling written and oral communications.
Convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials. Convey experience and credibility when presenting materials to external audiences
Gets others to accept ideas by using convincing arguments, creates a win-win situation and responds appropriately to key stakeholders
Engage supporters, board members, corporate partners, and volunteers to build long-term relationships for the benefit of the organization
Passionate about the mission and vision of Ruby’s Place
Coordinate with Finance Department on procedures and policies for tracking and reporting development activities.

Partnership

Work in collaboration with the ED and Board to create a long-term sustainability plan for the organization
Develops and implements plans to support local business and corporate sponsorships.
Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives; skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers, across different levels of the organization and externally.
Creates appropriate communication and recognition plans to ensure proper stewardship and acknowledgement of all gifts related to special events and partnership activities.
Represents the agency at public meetings, conferences, hearings and other activities that relates to volunteers, projects, partnership and development events.

Create, implement and manage effective fundraising platforms that support significant growth
Partner with ED to align development goals and vision with the organization’s strategic priorities

Qualifications

Four (4) year college degree in a related field. A viable combination of education and experience will be considered.
5+ years of demonstrated success in the development function in an entrepreneurial, high-performing nonprofit organization
Entrepreneurial Spirit: takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donor relationships and to forge new ones

Proven success in expanding strategic partnership for small nonprofits ($1-3M)
Demonstrated ability to lead ambitious and innovative fundraising campaigns that generate significant donations from individuals and foundations
Skilled in taking our mission and turning it into powerful, compelling written and oral communications
An existing network of contacts and potential donors a strong plus
Experience in planning, leading, and managing fundraising events
Knowledge of, or experience in, online fundraising, nonprofit advocacy, and community outreach is a plus
Self-directed, motivated, and able to execute independently at a high level
Must have excellent human relations skills.
