The Asian Pacific Environmental Network is looking for a creative and efficient finance coordinator to enrich the effectiveness of our growing team. This is a part-time position based in our Oakland, CA office. The Finance Coordinator ensures the smooth operation of the organization’s financial management and financial systems. This position leads the work in APEN’s financial/bookkeeping oversight and is a member of the Operations Team. The Finance Coordinator will report to the Operations Director, and will work closely with other members of our infrastructure team and broader staff.
The Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN) was founded in 1993 to bring together a collective voice among the diverse Asian and Pacific Islander communities to develop an alternative agenda for environmental, social and economic justice, and fight for the right of all people to a clean and healthy environment in which to live, work and play. In pursuit of this vision, APEN revolves around five strategies: building grassroots power, strengthening the organizing capacity in API communities, forging strategic alliances, and advancing proactive agendas and policies towards systemic change.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management: With the Operations Director and Development Director, oversee the finances and the finance systems in the organization to ensure financial health; produce reports to track accounts, investments and budgets
Audit: Lead and coordinate annual financial audit process and people involved; gather documents and prepare reports required by auditor; review & process tax reports and records after audit
Bookkeeping: process and track accounts payable & receivable; write checks; monitor bank and investment records, including monthly bank reconciliation; review accuracy of payroll; process tax documents; track consultants and file proper reporting; log petty cash; allocate and code income and expenses; track fiscal sponsorships; and monitor finance systems and make improvements as needed
Budget: Coordinate annual budget process; compile organizational budget through component budgeting process; enter budget & track in the books; provide reports and training to increase financial literacy in organization; monitor and update budget as necessary
Reporting: Compile financial reports for committees and board; prepare grant financial reports; process tax and legal forms
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Trainings: lead creation of financial procedures manual; hold nonprofit financial literacy trainings with staff/board
Organizational support: play a role in organizational events as needed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least 2 years of organizational bookkeeping experience
Excellent financial management, coordination, budgeting and administration skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Hard-working, self-disciplined, punctual and able to work well under pressure
Excellent time management skills, including the ability to meet strict deadlines while maintaining high quality work and attention to details.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, including follow-through and tracking
Good temperament and personable.
Comfortable working with culturally diverse populations, specifically knowledge and awareness of Asian and Pacific Islander community issues
