Defend Oregon Finance Director
Defend Oregon, the coordinated ballot measure campaign program run by the state’s largest progressive organizations, is seeking qualified applicants for a Finance Director position.
The Finance Director will be based in Portland, Oregon with some travel outside of Portland. The primary goal for the Finance Director is to raise the money needed to pass progressive ballot measure campaigns and defeat anti-union, anti-democracy and other conservative measures headed toward the 2016 ballot. This temporary position will last until December 1, 2016.
While the number of measures and exact ballot slate is yet to be determined, the Finance Director will primarily focus on two campaigns:
A Better Oregon: A coalition of parents, small businesses, teachers, and advocacy organizations has come together to run a ballot measure to fund our schools, health care and senior services by making large and out-of-state corporations pay their fair share in taxes. The Great Recession took a great toll on the basic funding for our schools and services – A Better Oregon would restore smaller class sizes and health care programs by increasing Oregon’s corporate minimum tax for large corporations. Volunteers are currently gathering signatures to qualify this measure for the 2016 ballot.
Keep Oregon Working: The timber industry, and former Bill Sizemore funder Loren Parks, have teamed up to run two ballot measures that attack working families by making it more difficult to join a union. These measures, both currently in the signature-gathering process, aim to keep wages low and reduce benefits for workers in Oregon so that large and out-of-state corporations can maximize their profits.
Applicants should expect to work long hours and have access to reliable transportation. Specific responsibilities of the Finance Director include but are not limited to:
– Raising the money to run a series of ballot measure campaigns
– Managing a finance team to assist in fundraising
– Coordinating fundraising with all campaign activities
– Running a major donor program
– Developing an online fundraising program
– Designing and running a grassroots fundraising campaign
– Building and expanding relationships with key allies
– Representing the campaign at community events
– And more…
Successful applicants will demonstrate the following qualifications:
– Campaign fundraising experience
– Staff management experience
– Strong time-management skills and work ethic
– Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
– Ability to adapt quickly and accomplish goals as set forth by the campaign
Salary/Benefits: Monthly salary will ranges from $4000 to $7500 per month and is dependent on experience
