Financial Assessment Coordinator – Start Small Think Big Inc – Bronx, NY

The Financial Assessment Coordinator is responsible for maintaining an active client caseload, overseeing the coordination of all financial referrals to Start Small’s pro bono partners, and overseeing Start Small’s small business financial education workshop series. The position reports directly to Start Small Think Big’s Financial Programs Director.

Job Responsibilities shall include, but shall not be limited to:

Maintaining an active client caseload.This consists of identifying and addressing Small Business Financial Program clients’ financial needs, including through:

– scheduling and conducting one-on-one financial assessments/diagnostics with clients (the purpose of which is to determine, in detail, the client’s personal/business financial health; general business management and accounting abilities (e.g. recordkeeping, budgeting, cash flow tracking, projections); capital needs, current savings/debt, credit history, and connectivity to financial products; and current business structure and stage),
– collecting relevant documentation and maintaining case files,
– overseeing the coordination of financial referrals to Start Small’s pro bono partners (discussed in more detail below), and,
– when appropriate, providing one-on-one ongoing financial/credit information/counseling.

Overseeing the coordination of financial referrals to Start Small’s pro bono partners. This consists of directly supervising Start Small’s Programs & Operations Associate to ensure the effective, efficient, and professional coordination of all aspects of such client referrals. Among other things, this includes ensuring that the Programs & Operations Associate coordinates the referral and placement of new client matters with pro bono partners and that such matters progress to completion in an efficient and effective manner.
Overseeing Start Small’s small business financial education workshop series. This consists of developing the strategy, design, and production of content with respect to the workshop series, facilitating such workshops as appropriate, and supervising the Programs & Operations Associate with respect to marketing, coordinating, and administering such workshops.
Coordinate with financial program clients’ legal volunteers as needed, to ensure streamlined and efficient provision of services and client progression toward streamlined financial, legal, and business development goals. This includes working with the Executive Director, other program staff, and external consultants, as applicable, to establish and implement efficient and effective collaborative processes.
Establish, maintain and enhance strong collaborative relationships withcommunity and governmental organizations as well as (relevant) financial and other service providers to ensure appropriate and sufficient client referrals and to foster the development of collaborative projects.
Work with the Board of Directors, as assigned, including staffing select board committees/working groups and/or presenting to the full board on occasion.
Engage in ongoing professional development, including participating in trainings, technical assistance, networking, and resource sharing opportunities.
Carry out special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in finance, business, accounting, or related field required.
Advanced knowledge of Quickbooks and Microsoft Office (emphasis on Excel) required.
Ability to read, write, interpret, and advise with respect to business financial statements, to conduct financial analyses, perform financial and business valuation assessments, provide growth plan support and guidance, and support small business owners in their business development efforts, required.
Prior experience in direct client service required. Direct experience advising low- to moderate-income individuals strongly preferred.
Personal financial counseling experience, accreditation, or similar training (or a commitment to attaining accreditation or equivalent status) preferred.
Bilingual English/Spanish or Spanish proficiency preferred.
Demonstrated experience and ability in program and partnership development as well as management. Understanding of and experience working with the corporate social responsibility and/or pro bono arms of corporate financial institutions, financial advisory firms, accounting firms, and/or advertising or marketing firms preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to inclusive community/economic development, social and economic justice work, and/or anti-poverty work.
Meticulous attention to detail.
