Financial Manager – The Engine Room – New York, NY

We are looking for a dynamic, highly-skilled, reliable, and experienced finance director to support and consolidate our financial process and strategy. We are a small team and each of us has a lot of responsibility as well as a lot of room to be autonomous and creative. Sometimes it’s challenging but it’s also very rewarding. We look forward to finding someone who is a strategic financial thinker and who can work proactively to address important and time-sensitive issues to keep financial aspects of projects on track.

This position will be responsible for all accounting and financial functions including:

accounting for staff expenses and disbursements,

payroll processing,

bank reconciliations,

general ledger review,

financial statement preparation,

annual audit preparation,

and tax and regulatory filings.

The position is also responsible for working with organizational leadership to:

develop and track an annual organizational budget;

manage relationship with financial institutions;

oversee bank transfers;

provide training and technical assistance to staff members regarding cost allocations and coding;

reviewing & maintaining proper internal controls;

ensuring responsible tracking and monitoring of unrestricted and restricted revenue;

reasonable cost allocation plan based on revenue;

cash flow analysis;

all grant application budgets;

financial information and related narratives;

as well as interim and final reporting of grant expenditures.

This position reports directly to leadership, and leads monthly finance meetings and quarterly development of financial reports for the board of directors.

Minimum Qualifications:

A university degree or higher in accounting or finance. Direct experience working in non-profit accounting including grant budgeting and reporting, and three or more years of financial management experience. Experience in Xero preferred and proficiency in Excel required.
