Financial Services Specialist – Boston Private Industry Council – Jamaica Plain, MA

REPORTS TO: School-to-Career Assistant Director

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Financial Services Specialist will work closely with the PIC Financial Services Employer Account Manager and Career Specialists to coordinate and deliver information sessions, workshops, and trainings for Boston public high school students interested in internships in the financial services sector. Throughout the year, Career Specialists will refer students interested in financial services to the Financial Services Specialist in order for them to learn about the sector and participate in workshops and trainings to prepare for summer jobs. The Financial Services Specialist must be able to work effectively with employers, youth, teachers, school administrators, and other PIC staff.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and conduct employer surveys and interviews to learn what skills students need in order to be successful in a summer job in the financial services industry.
Develop and conduct school surveys to see what, if any, financial programming exists, and how the PIC can build on the work.
Lead student information sessions about Boston-area financial services companies, covering what jobs are available within each company, as well as required skill sets.
Coordinate workshops for students to help them understand the financial services sector.
Recruit and manage trainers to facilitate trainings on skills specific to the financial services industry – including Microsoft Excel and Access, and other topics to be identified through surveys of employers.
Provide career information and development activities to students in coordination with the PIC staff, consultants/volunteers, and school teaching faculty.
Expand network of relationships with financial services companies. Provide ongoing support for financial services internship employers, and support other initiatives as opportunities arise with the ultimate goal of increasing employer involvement in PIC programs.
Assist with the coordination of major School-to-Career initiatives, including annual Job Shadow Day and Mock Interview Week.
Other duties as assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of two years related work experience (preferably in financial services).
Strong organization skills.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Knowledge of the Boston school and business communities and familiarity with employment, education, and training systems.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability work well with students, employers, schools, and PIC personnel.
