Scion Nonprofit Staffing (www.scionnonprofitstaffing.com) has been engaged to conduct a search for a Grants Associate for our client, a global leadership and impact foundation in Mountain View, CA.
This role is a long-term contract position of 2-3 months minimum duration, with the potential for direct-hire if a candidate demonstrates fit in the contract period.
OVERVIEW:
This is a very well known foundation that distributes funds for a variety of initiatives on behalf of high-profile major donors. The Foundation is excited to expand its effort internationally and seeks to work with highly qualified minds from grantmaking, compliance, and/or legal backgrounds to ensure it is lawfully and fiscally sound in its collaboration with its partners.
A successful candidate will have a superbly honed attention for detail in both numbers and language, and will have a sincere desire to guide others through complex processes. An aptitude for learning new technologies (database systems) is also key to achievement in this role.
The Grants Associate will be part of a team of 30 grants, gifts, and compliance professionals helping to collect and record due diligence documentation for potential international grantees.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Utilizing red-carpet customer service orientation, answer phone, email and in person customer inquiries from grantees and colleagues regarding due diligence status and procedures
-Send inquiries to prospective grantees, track outreach and responses, verify that all information needed is received, and follow up as necessary to meet deadlines
-Utilize prior knowledge in grants, legal field, and/or compliance to make best decisions and strategize effectively
-Enter and update database records and create due diligence packets for management review and approval
-Prepare grant agreements, award letters and other correspondence
-Provide timely, responsive and professional customer service throughout the community foundation
-Document due diligence procedures as needed with exceptional attention for detail
-Work with the grants administration team to improve processing, procedures and to solve challenging problems by asking intelligent, concise questions
-Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
-4 year degree (BA/BS)
-5 years of professional work experience required, preferably specific to grants on the funding side; applicants with experience in compliance and regulatory roles (either from nonprofit or for-profit background) will also be considered
-Experience in legal or finance strongly desired
-Experience with Blackbaud/Raiser’s Edge or similar a plus; other database systems may also be considered (Salesforce, Access, Gifts platform, etc.)
-Excellent people and project management skills
-Ability and willingness to work effectively with diverse groups of people and in a multicultural team environment
-Sense of initiative, good judgment, impeccable work ethic, enjoyment of learning opportunities, and ability to work with humor even when under pressure
-Proactive and creative approach to solving problems
-Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, in a way that encourages participation and demonstrates understanding
-Proven ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities and workflow to meet deadlines
-Flexibility to reprioritize as client needs change
-Attention to detail and proven ability to perform tasks independently with a high degree of accuracy
-Investigatory nature; natural enjoyment in nuances and intricacy of problem-solving and historical tracking
-Superior communication skills; both verbal and written
-Strong computer skills with experience in Word, Excel and Outlook; experience with DocuSign a plus
COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and salary history, at approximately $18-25/hour, DOE.
