Investment Management Specialist – One Earth Future Foundation – Broomfield, CO

The Investment Management Specialist shall support the development, implementation and ongoing support of Somalia’s business and financial development. This will include a portfolio wherein the specialist conducts the desk audits on loan applications, assembles loan packages, and presents them to an investor committee. The Specialist must be able to track business proposals, loan applications, as well as programmatic reports and loan repayments. Specialists will work closely with those in the field (i.e., team members in Somalia) to coordinate collecting loan application documentation, question and clarify issues regarding the application, and service approved loans. S/he will also respond to requests for information from external parties, including implementation partners, and/or new applicants. The Specialist will also assume a prominent or lead role in initiatives (or special projects) as defined by Shuraako management. This could include forums, conferences, research on specific topics, partnership development and other projects yet to be defined.

Duties

Receive, file, and review investment applications for completeness and adherence to internal guidelines and legal requirements, including:
Conducting due diligence reviews of applicants’ organization and operational capacity
Conduct and maintain Bridger Insight XG watch list checks on applicant(s)
Analyze loan applications and conduct financial analysis on applications to ensure business models are viable and the business is loan-ready.
Communicate with Somali applicants (via email and phone calls in English) regarding their loan application and loan servicing. For example: missing application materials, clarifying business operating model and/or financial expenditures, etc.
Present loan applications to an investor committee to receive the necessary approval to issue loans
Input and monitor loan repayment data, report submissions, procurement deadlines, project-related activities, and other data necessary data
Work directly with investment recipients, who will be Somali businesses, to monitor and support their loan as necessary
Problem solve with team members and clients, if issues arise
Assist management in overseeing investment/grants by tracking data and closely monitoring clients and/or loan applications for issues and/or non-repayment
Provide internal memos and briefings on relevant topics, as assigned
Conduct relevant research for project use and/or support, as assigned
Build and maintain external relationships with experts, advisors, and partners to support the loan application process
Create and maintain tracking reports to manage the volume of concept notes, business plans, investor packages, and investments
Use loan software management systems, and support their implementation and rollout
Organize forums, conferences, and conduct research on specific topics.
Engage in special partnership development, proposals, strategic planning and other projects yet to be defined.
Perform other duties and responsibilities, as requested

Skills/Qualifications

Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s Degree, with a preference given to those with MBAs, CPAs, and/or CFAs. Academic focus should either have been in Accounting or Finance.
Minimum two years’ experience in either accounting or finance, including commercial banking, investment banking or financial services.
Possess business acumen and have prior experience in assessing loan applications. Preference given to applicants with previous commercial underwriting experience.
Strong accounting background required with ability to understand how balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statements relate to one another.
Understanding of IRR and NPV and use these methods to price loans.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Strong business writing skills and ability to convey messages to both investors and partners.
Mastered MS Office Suite (including Word & Excel).
Exposure to emerging markets is preferred.
