Job Purpose
The Junior Accountant will contribute to the efficient and effective workings of the finance department by executing daily, weekly, monthly, and year-end tasks with a strong attention to detail. This role requires strong accounting knowledge, time management skills, and effective problem solving to ensure success.
Duties & Responsibilities
Accounts Payable, includes processing invoices, following up with vendors and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner. Vendor maintenance in Intacct
Accounts Receivable, including processing payments, producing statement of accounts, collections on overdue accounts and account reconciliation when required. Customer maintenance in Intacct
Procurement, including processing order requests, obtaining packing slips, and ensure there is three-way matching before payment to vendor is processed
Banking, processing bank deposits, including trips to the bank
Processing employee expense reports, verifying expenses are within the organization guidelines, correcting errors, questioning abnormal expenses and entering into finance system
Company credit card reconciliations, payment, communication for obtaining supporting documentation, and circulation of complete reconciliation for approval of cardholders
Prepare use and sales tax return
Prepare and post various allocations, general and adjusting journal entries
Reconcile various general ledger account balances
Invoice creation and distribution when required
Assisting with monthly and year-end closing
General filing and administrative duties
Assist with special projects as required
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of one to two years accounting experience
Ability to pass a livescan background check, and TB test
2 to 4 years of experience using computer programs such as Word, Excel, and databases
Deep commitment to and passion for the power of a community to transform public education so that the quality of Oakland’s public schools matches the potential of Oakland’s children
Strong organizational skills, excellent attention to details, and ability to manage multiple competing deadlines required
Ability to verbally communicate and respond to requests from staff, clients, and vendors related to financial and accounting topics
Excellent interpersonal and writing skills
Some evening and weekend hours will be required
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience preparing and monitoring budgets
Experience using Intacct or similar cloud based fund-accounting management information system
Two or Four year college degree (Finance, Accounting or related field) or equivalent experience
