Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer – Province of St Mary of the Capuchin Order – New York, NY

Oversee and grow the Major and Planned Giving Department and its operations for the Mission and Development Office of the Capuchin Franciscans of the Province of St. Mary. This is a “hands on” position requiring participation in all levels of planning, implementing, and follow-up of the goals and expectations for the department. Assist the Development Director, as part of the management team, in all aspects of fundraising activities and events.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Develop and maintain relationships with the Capuchin Franciscan Friars and Capuchin Franciscan institutions throughout the Province to help promote the needs of the Province. 2. Identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and steward Major Donors and Major Donor prospects. 3. Assist the Development Director and identified Friars (particularly the Provincial Minister) in the cultivation and solicitation of a select portfolio of Major Donors. 4. Coordinate and maintain Planned Giving activities, solicitations, marketing, and follow-up efforts to grow the number and kinds of deferred-giving opportunities for our donors (wills, bequests, annuities, trusts, insurance, etc.). 5. Design, prepare, and distribute information about gifting opportunities through print and electronic means. 6. Oversee the maintenance of computer and hard-copy files of department donors, assuring accuracy and securing confidentiality of any and all information. 7. Develop and adhere to budgets and annual goals, as well as specific project deadlines. 8. Develop and maintain personal contact with identified donors through on-going written, electronic, verbal, and face-to-face methods to steward and grow their interest in and contributions to the Province of Saint Mary.

REQUIREMENTS: 1. Previous experience (3-5 years) in a non-profit fundraising setting, with specific responsibilities for Major and Planned Gifts. 2. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. 3. Knowledge of the particular fundraising style associated with religious-based organizations preferred. 4. Must be able to work in a collaborative team setting and work independently on specific time-sensitive projects. 5. Travel required. 6. Must be familiar with and adhere to the ethical standards of the National Catholic Development Conference and Association of Fundraising Professionals. 7. Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite. 8. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Raiser’s Edge database software. 9. Proficiency in English required. Bilingual proficiency English/Spanish welcomed. 10. Valid NYS Driver License. Must be able to drive visit selected donors in all parts of the Province’s New York and New England territory.
