Operations / Finance Associate – Rhode Island Mayoral Academies – Providence, RI

Since 2008, Rhode Island Mayoral Academies (RIMA) has been at the forefront of shifting the way in which Rhode Island serves its children. From establishment of the mayoral academy law to passage of the new funding formula to Race to the Top to the Central Falls District Charter Compact – RIMA, in conjunction with a coalition of mayors and partner organizations, has led the way for transformative change. Furthermore, through the establishment of Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy, Achievement First Providence Mayoral Academy, and most recently RISE Prep Mayoral Academy, RIMA has created school networks that will eventually serve over 5,000 students every year, and also serve as examples of what schools in Rhode Island can be.

RIMA is currently searching for an Operations & Finance Associate to manage the modeling, budgeting, reporting, and operational aspects of the organization’s work. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this is an ideal position for someone seeking to join a mission-driven team at a dynamic non-profit in Rhode Island. The role calls for a quick learner and problem solver, particularly one with finance and operational skills.

Responsibilities will include:

Budgeting and Finance

Perform long-term financial planning to inform organization-wide strategy
Development of annual operating budgets
Monitoring and analysis of performance against budget
Grant compliance
Manage payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, procurement, accounting data entry, and account reconciliation
Situational analyses of potential grant or program opportunities

Operations and Orgnizational Structure

Ensure, in conjunction with counsel and audit professionals, legal, tax, and reporting complaince for real estate special purpose entities
Collaborate with the team to ensure systematic and efficient day-to-day operations
Maintain all transactional paperwork including filing, compiling requests for auditors, and maintaining multi-year filing system
Manage and execute vendor relationships and contracts
Moderate purchasing and office management tasks

Other tasks as requested by the Chief Executive Officer

Position Qualifications

Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong proactive problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Acute attention to detail and a focus on efficiency
Comfort with technology and a proven ability to research technology related issues
Bachelor’s degree required
