Senior Accountant – Child Care Resources, King County and Pierce County – Seattle, WA

SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Controller, and in accordance with department goals and objectives, the Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the agency general ledger, establishing internal control procedures, completing monthly reconciliations and reports for agency and other outside entities, and accounting activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Accountant will perform all duties related to the monthly general ledger closings and internal control processes for the agency:

Perform monthly routine entries into the accounting system including depreciation, interest, insurance, management fees, etc.
Assist Controller with monthly and year end reconciliation and analysis, including bank statements, and general ledger accounts and updating related schedules
Assist Controller with monthly financial reports and perform various detailed analyses for program management purposes
Develop and maintain documented accounting systems and desktop procedures for fiscal functions and assist in the development of company internal control policies and procedures
Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger balances in the accounting system
Annual financial and program audits and budgets.
Review legal documents on new projects and develop systems of ensuring compliance
Manage process (backup) of biweekly payroll data; ensure accuracy of computations, statutory withholdings, voluntary deductions, and overall employee payroll records; and monitor timeliness and accuracy of data submitted for payroll processing’s
Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting accounting software
and communicate with vendor tech support.
Analyze and reconcile payroll and payroll-tax-related general ledger accounts
Ensure compliance with all payroll-tax laws and organizational policies
Complete PR year end closing activities (ex, W-2s)
Coordinates the monthly closing process
Assist in preparing materials for the Board of Directors, Leadership Team, Financial Committee, Fundraising Development Committee and other committees as requested
Post journal entries
Assist with in depth analysis of accounts as required-travel, utilities, consultants, pass thru
Review and maintain the distribution allocation method
Attend meetings when necessary
Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and be very skilled in budgeting, financial analysis and effectively communicating financial information to diverse audiences
Oversee accounts payable process and issue EFT and manual checks
Have a working knowledge of non-profit fund accounting and knowledge of ABILA MIP Fund accounting software
Have a thorough and thoughtful approach to finance that includes but is not limited to: report writing, budget preparation, and financial analysis
Commitment to continuing education in the accounting field
Other duties as assigned and/or as required depending on project, client or workflow needs

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
A four-year undergraduate degree in accounting or in a related field and 3-5 years of accounting experience
Not for profit finance and accounting experience highly preferred
Proficient knowledge/experience of Excel
Knowledge of MIP and Crystal Reports desirable
CPA a plus

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and procedures and related laws, codes, and regulations
Ability to work with diverse populations
Ability to handle multiple, simultaneous tasks

Excellent attention to detail
Excellent critical, analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication (verbal, written, and comprehension) and organizational skill

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

$50,116-$62,645

Salary depends on ability to meet or exceed the above desired employment criteria.
