Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant, reporting to the Director of Finance, is the resource responsible for the preparation, analysis and input of transactions into the financial system as well as the monthly reporting for both external and internal clients. The successful candidate will possess a working knowledge of the relationship between financial records, their underlying documents and the significance of account codes and classifications in the resulting reports.
The Senior Accountant is an exempt position. Exempt employees are expected to work the appropriate and necessary time in order to complete key assignments and related tasks on schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides support for the accurate and timely preparation of financial reports for both external and internal clients
Assists in the preparation of documentation for annual and other external audits
Supports for preparation of IRS Form 990 Tax Return
Assists in the implementation of new or revised accounting systems, procedures, and processes
Performs month-end and year-end close duties
Analyzes transactions to arrive at correct account balances and prepares well documented journal entries for various expense accounts; including merchant accounts and payroll/benefits
Records, analyzes, and reconciles inter-company transactions and accounts; prepares monthly eliminations schedule
Assists in monitoring cash balances and other treasury functions
Researches accounting discrepancies and recommends corrective measures
Prepares monthly schedules and reconciliations of various balance sheet and income statement accounts
Provides back up coverage in Finance Operations
Conducts special projects and performs related duties as assigned
May be required to train and/or guide other team members
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accrual accounting, and internal control processes
Strong analytical and accounting skills. Must be able to identify, analyze, and problem-solve accounting or compliance issues within a deadline-oriented environment
Good judgment skills and the demonstrated ability to make sound decisions within the scope of the position
Ability to hold self and others accountable for high-quality, timely, and effective results
Demonstrates commitment to meeting the needs of internal and external clients; ability to strive for high level of satisfaction

Proficiency with MS Office suite of products, especially Excel (intermediate or advanced)
Experience with integrated accounting software, preferable Blackbaud Financial Edge
Experience with Fund Accounting or similar accounting structure
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently within a fast-paced, task-directed, deadline-oriented environment
Ability to work well within a team structure of cooperative participation with respect and sensitivity for the diverse viewpoints and the different communications styles that nurture a multicultural organization
Ability to prioritize duties and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Education and Experience:
Undergraduate degree in Accounting preferred, or a Business Administration or Economics degree with an emphasis in accounting
4+ years of experience in a similar position
