ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW The Jewish Community Federation (JCF) of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties is the network for Jewish progress, dedicated to building a connected and enriched Jewish community locally, supporting a pluralistic and democratic Israel, and sustaining Jews in need around the world.

Together with its endowment operations (Jewish Community Endowment Fund), JCF acts as a central Jewish financial resource development and planning institution for the Jewish community of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties. We serve donors and local and international NGO’s by providing planning, capacity building, and financial resources from funds raised through our Jewish Community Endowment Fund, endowed vehicles, donor-advised philanthropy, and campaigns. Additionally we serve the needs of the Jewish people in Israel and overseas with financial support of innovative programming.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Managers of Investments and Supporting Foundations, the Senior Accountant will assist the Investment Manager and Supporting Foundations Manager in the month-end close, prepare journal entries and account reconciliations, and assist with the annual audit related to the Jewish Community Federation’s invested assets, endowment, donor advised funds and supporting foundations. The Senior Accountant will assist in preparing both internal and external reporting, coordinate capital calls, and maintain up-to-date and accurate records for a number of investment vehicles and supporting foundations. They will be responsible for providing administrative support for the Investment, Endowment, DAF and Foundations Teams and maintaining interaction with third-party service providers and investment managers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

Maintain organized and thorough files to support investment transactions and accounting records for quarterly financial statements
Prepare quarterly Supporting Foundation financial statements
Monitor, organize and disburse incoming e-mails to centralized accounts
Monitor fund cash balances
Assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly account reconciliations and timely research of variances or unusual transactions
Assist in the month-end close, preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and the annual audit
Assist in facilitating investments including the preparation of documents, manager, and custodial letters
Assist in maintaining and establishing required bank accounts
Review and check data to validate accuracy and completeness of data used in reporting
Prepare routine accounting entries for foundations, investments and other operating activity
Assist in monitoring and following up on any accounting issues and coordinate with external tax preparer
Coordinate information flow with third-party service providers
Respond to requests for information and carry out special projects as assigned

EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE EQUIVALENT TO:

BA/BS in accounting
Minimum of two to three years of accounting experience

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, ABILITIES, LICENSE):

Experience in not-for-profit financial accounting and fund accounting strongly preferred
CPA licensure or equivalency a plus
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with MicroEdge FIMS platform a plus
Strong and effective communication skills to deal directly with vendors and all levels of staff and management
Technical skills and experience in financial reporting, consolidation and investment accounting
Attention to detail to ensure a high degree of accuracy
Strong organizational skills
Ability to multi-task to balance multiple requests without losing sight of overall objectives and deadlines
