Position Overview

Italian Home for Children (IHC) is a $16M organization seeking a driven finance professional to serve as a Senior Staff Accountant. The Senior Staff Accountant will own and provide reporting costs, productivity and financial analysis support to the organization. This position will be utilizing hands-on accounting experience and an in-depth understanding of accounting principles and company practices. The Senior Staff Accountant will have responsibility for the journal entries for the monthly cycle, mentor and backup of other accounting activities, and will assist the Controller as needed. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Staff Accountant serves on IHC’s Finance Team, which is led by the Director of Operations.

Position is located in Boston, MA, at Italian Home for Children’s Headquarters.

Specific Responsibilities

Provide management with information regarding Italian Home for Children’s financial performance and related policy issues.
Monitor bank account balances;
Monitor Productivity and third party billing;
Lead on Revenue posting;
Perform Cost Allocation to different programs as expenses come in and at the end of each payroll cycle;
Performing variance analyses and preparing account reconciliations
Account reconciliation which includes prepaid expenses, deferred rent, and revenue accounts;
Documenting and monitoring internal controls in support of auditing team;
Maintenance of all equipment contracts and insurance policies;
Serve as a backup for payroll processing;
Serve as a backup for accounting functions;
Grant and Contract monitoring;
Work directly with external auditors on a variety of technical accounting issues; and
Providing assistance with internal or external audit requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or other related field;
Proficiency in Excel software;
Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in fast-paced environment;
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
8-10 years of prior accounting and financial analysis experience.
Sense of Humor
Comfortable working in small, evolving, growing company.
Proficiency in Great Plains
