Mission
Asian Americans Advancing Justice|Chicago, a member of Advancing Justice, has a mission to empower the Asian American community through advocacy, by utilizing education, research, and coalition-building.
History
Advancing Justice|Chicago was established in 1992 by a group of visionary Chicago community activists, academicians, and business leaders in response to the growing need to build a pan-Asian policy agenda among Chicago’s diverse Asian American communities. Advancing Justice|Chicago projects a united voice on the most pressing issues of concern to Asian Americans in metropolitan Chicago. Its staff and board work closely with a broad network of established community leaders and emerging activists who have bridged ethnic and cultural differences to find solutions to shared concerns.
II. About the Position
The Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper works closely with the Director of Development (DD) to lead and develop an internal team to support finance and planning.
The Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper will play a critical role in partnering with the senior leadership team in strategic finance as Advancing Justice | Chicago continues to enhance its quality programming and build capacity. This is a tremendous opportunity for a finance staff to maximize and strengthen the internal capacity of a well-respected, high-impact organization.
The Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper will report to the Director of Development.
This is a temporary Full Time position with possibilities for permanent employment
Financial Management Responsibilities**
Maintain financial database (Quickbooks), chart of accounts, general ledger, and related computer and manual filing systems.
Perform basic bookkeeping tasks: processing semi-monthly cash disbursements and payroll, posting journal entries, and reconciling bank accounts.
Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
Manage contracts and financial reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
Work closely and transparently with all external partners including third-party vendors and consultants.
III. Qualifications
Minimum of a B.A., ideally with an MBA/CPA or related degree
At least 3-5 years of overall professional experience; ideally 5+ years of broad financial management experience
Experience leading and managing teams
Knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
Ability to translate financial concepts and effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds
A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
A multi-tasker comfortable in a fast-paced environment
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of Advancing Justice | Chicago.
