Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is the largest single provider of transitional housing in New York City. At our American Family Inns, families receive the education, job training, and support services necessary to maintain permanent housing and become self-sufficient.
We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. The ideal candidate for this position is looking to join a team where they will perform a variety of purchasing and financial reporting activities. This is a great opportunity for a recent college graduate. Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for purchasing and general accounting functions including but not limited to monthly account reconciliations, cost allocations, and other A/R and A/P duties.
Essential Functions:
Prepares, analyzes, and negotiate Requests for Proposals (RFP) with suppliers for efficient delivery of products and services; track and develops reports to identify progress of cost saving initiatives and process efficiencies.
Reviews and processes purchase requisitions, purchase order adjustments, and check-enclosed requisitions for purchases; develops and assists with implementation of processes for efficiency improvements.
Analyzes, identifies, and communicates information regarding purchase orders; Identifies, researches, and resolves problems relating to purchasing issues.
Verifies and inputs vendor data into system; develop reports to track vendors and category spending.
Coordinate the movement of all purchased materials.
Perform PO and item master maintenance transaction in Sage MIP system.
Maintain supplier files by keeping them complete and up to date.
Follow established guidelines and procedures for purchases and establish a preferred supplier list.
Conduct routine and specialized accounting functions
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
Manage billings and receivable schedules.
Performs and reviews General Ledger account reconciliations and analysis.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
Relevant accounting experience
Sage/MIP experience preferred but not required
Exceptional attention to detail
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to communicate well, both verbal and written
Good interpersonal and customer service skills
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
Ability to work in a team environment
Compensation
