Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant is an accounting professional with experience in dealing with a wide variety of general and specialized accounting functions and account processing involving regular application of knowledge of accounting methods, forms and techniques, and general accounting principles, practices and procedures. The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for the general ledger accounting, financial reporting and other duties of real estate related entities.
Essential Job Functions:
General Accounting:
Maintains records of all financial documents with appropriate supporting material, and updates records as necessary.
Reconciles general ledger accounts to their related subsidiary ledgers, prepares and proposes adjustments to general ledger as required.
Prepares reconciliations and year-end work papers pertaining to general ledger accounts.
Monitors accounts receivable collections, and reviews accounts, and prepares and proposes entries to reconcile accounts.
Performs accounts payable reviews such as verifying all invoices for payment and ensuring expenditures are charged to appropriate accounts.
Responsible for determining the proper and consistent application of work procedures and instructions.
Provides departmental assistance with questions relating to the general ledger.
Recommends and/or implements departmental controls and procedures.
Other Duties:
Communicates with co-workers, management, vendors, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
Other accounting duties: run reports, input and process journal entries, file and mail financial reports and tax returns.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
Ability to work in a fast-paced accounting department with multiple entities, projects, and deliverables.
Knowledge of accounting codes, classifications and terminology pertinent to various account maintenance functions.
Working knowledge of automated accounting software and standard office programs such as Word and Excel.
Ability to maintain established financial records and prepare a variety of statements and reports.
Working knowledge of accrual accounting.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to implement internal controls.
Ability to work independently and efficiently, and seeks help when needed.
Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
Able to work with a diverse group of people.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or other related field, with a minimum of two years related work experience.
Basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
