Sustainable Claremont is seeking a part-time employee (with the potential to become full-time) to work 20-25 hours per week at an hourly rate between $15-$19. The employee shall have a keen interest in sustainability and will staff the Sustainability Resource Center office and support the activities of the organization. Desired capabilities include organizational skills, ability to interact effectively with the public, a background or demonstrated interest related to sustainability, media and computer skills, a creative perspective, and a ‘Can-Do’ attitude.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Sustainability Resource Center
Regularly staff the Sustainability Resource Center.
Respond to public inquiries (phone, email, direct).
Collect and display informational material.
Maintain library and check-out system.
Purchase office materials.
Network with other sustainability-related/interested community groups or members.
Programs/Events
Develop, plan, and execute sustainability-related events or activities for the community, including Action Group events, Annual Earth Day Celebration, and the Annual Meeting.
Design event posters, logos, banners, etc. as necessary.
Assist in promoting events through social media, posters, newspapers, etc.
Administration
Prepare items for monthly Board Meetings, including agenda, additional documents, PowerPoint presentation, and task list. Reserve meeting space.
Maintain membership records.
Submit an annual report to the City of Claremont.
Communications/Outreach
Produce, update, and maintain information materials, such as posters, brochures, banners, and other graphics.
Maintain current distribution network for transmitting informational materials.
Maintain a calendar of sustainability-related events (in office and online).
Regularly maintain social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube).
Generate monthly e-Newsletters that promote the latest news and upcoming events.
Generate MailChimp emails for special events or notices.
Assist with managing, updating, and maintaining website material.
Coordinate materials and volunteers for community event booths.
Create PowerPoint presentations for speaking events.
Finances
Collect and organize monthly receipts into statement packets.
Make payments to vendors.
Make bank deposits.
Maintain general monthly accounting in QuickBooks.
Generate monthly financial reports for Board Meetings.
Research and write grant proposals.
Facilitate other fundraising events.
Assist in yearly budgeting.
Skills and Experience Preferred:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, policy, sustainable development, business or public administration, urban planning, or other discipline relevant to the mission of Sustainable Claremont.
Experience: At least 1 year of experience implementing sustainability-related programs and familiarity with sustainability initiatives and organizations. Preference will be given to candidates with event organization experience and experience in grant writing and administration.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress or other blogging platforms, brand curating on social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram). Highly organized and detail-oriented. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Creative and collaborative problem solving skills.
The Sustainability Resource Center serves to provide information, answer questions, make referrals, interact with, and help coordinate other sustainability-oriented entities. The Sustainability Coordinator will be expected to help in the organization of the space, facilitate public outreach, and provide support to Sustainable Claremont programs as needed.
