About this Role:
myAgro is seeking a self-directed and entrepreneurial young professional with a problem-solving attitude, outstanding attention to detail, and a passion for myAgro’s mission of lifting smallholder farmers out of poverty.
The core of myAgro’s work and team is in West Africa, but key business functions that support the overall health of the organization are managed from the US. myAgro is undergoing an exciting period of growth as we seek to double our reach every year. This means that the back-end systems that keep our programs running smoothly—financial systems, cross-team operational and communication tools, recruitment pipelines, HR benefits, and more—need to be developed into efficient and smooth-running systems. The US Operations Associate plays a critical role in the design and execution of these systems.
This is an ideal position for someone interested in the business and operations dimensions of an award-winning and rapidly scaling social enterprise. This is a career-track role that has the potential to develop into specialized roles in HR, finance, communications, or more, depending on the individual’s performance and interest, and the organization’s needs. This position reports to the Senior US Operations Manager.
Responsibilities:
Recruiting & HR (30%)
Help develop a recruiting strategy to attract a high-performing team. For example, research promising channels for university recruiting partnerships or for specialized roles (e.g. French-speaking accountants)
Support the recruitment process: Post job applications, screen applicants, draft offer letters, etc.
Ensure the onboarding process is smoothly and clearly executed for all new employees
Support benefits tracking and implementation; for example health insurance administration and vacation tracking
Cross-team communication and operational effectiveness (30%)
Create internal employee newsletters and communications
Develop professional development resources for our team; for example, handouts on effective delegation or self-assessments on conflict resolution styles
Build the capacity of myAgro’s operational systems; for example building an effective Dropbox folder structure, or streamlining cross-team data-gathering capacities
Finance (25%)
Manage day-to-day US Finance operations
Enter all transaction data into Quickbooks
Process invoices and ensure records are appropriately filed
Miscellaneous Operations (15%)
Support executive team members with calendaring and administrative tasks
Support other miscellaneous projects as required
Requirements
1-3 years’ work experience, preferably in a similar role or in an early-stage organization
Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to drive projects forward independently: You solve problems when you see them and look for solutions without being told. You see a list of tasks, and naturally want to organize them into effective and efficient processes.
Outstanding attention to detail, and comfort working with numbers.
Self-directed and self-disciplined attitude: You work effectively independently; when essential but less-desirable administrative tasks need to be completed, you push through with a smile on your face
Outstanding project management and planning skills; comfort managing multiple simultaneous responsibilities without dropping any balls.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Flexibility & a sense of humor
Passion for myAgro’s work and mission
Desired: Comfort with excel functions (pivot tables, vlookups, etc), experience with Quickbooks or other accounting software
Benefits
Compensation and benefits competitive with other early-stage social enterprises
Flexible work schedule
Generous vacation benefits
More about myAgro
myAgro is an award-winning social enterprise working in Mali and Senegal, West Africa. Our mission is to help small-scale farmers move out of poverty by providing certified seed and fertilizer, technical assistance and market access to farmers via a mobile layaway payment system.
Small-scale farmers across the globe make up 70% of the world’s poor. Our model increases farm income, reduces food insecurity, and helps farmers move out of poverty. We’ve grown from 240 farmers to over 10,000 in the last year, and will continue to scale to reach tens of thousands of farmers in the coming years. Our dream is to build a model of savings layaway in Mali and Senegal that can be adopted by other organizations to serve farmers throughout the world.
We are proud to have received recognition for our work from Echoing Green, Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation, One Acre Fund, Mulago Foundation, The Salesforce Foundation and The Tech Museum, among others.
