Associate Director, Marketing / Communications – SF Marin Food Bank – San Francisco, CA

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the Associate Director, Marketing & Communications oversees the Food Bank’s communications, media relations and marketing efforts, supporting fundraising efforts. The Associate Director, Marketing & Communications has a primary responsibility for organizational messaging and brand positioning.

This position is accountable for strategic planning, budgeting and supervision of a team that includes the Communications and Media Relations Manager, Marketing Coordinator, Creative Direction Consultant and a part-time writer. In addition, this position is accountable for vendor relationships including designers, printers, pro bono creative teams and a web host.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Co-develop integrated marketing strategies (working with Associate Director, Annual Fund) with goals of increased revenue and local brand recognition. Craft strategies using internal and external interviews, SWOT analysis, campaign performance evaluation and ROI forecasting
Oversee execution of marketing strategies. Tactics include website design, microsite builds, social media campaigns, storytelling series, photo essays and videography, fleet graphics and advertising
Oversee development and implementation of media strategies that will raise the public visibility of the Food Bank
Develop creative briefs and oversee production of digital and print materials, including annual report, email newsletters, video series, creative suites for events and campaigns, and other marketing materials
Develop editorial strategies, and oversee corresponding development of story, photography and video library
Develop social media engagement strategies and campaigns in support of internal and external events, promotions and advocacy efforts
Conduct research and develop information briefs on key policy and food security issues
Establish review and copyediting standards
Develop brand and communications guidebooks
Mentor and supervise full-time and contract staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience
Minimum of five years managing nonprofit marketing and communications
Extensive writing experience; exceptional written communication skills
Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills; ability to develop and monitor work plans and budgets; experience managing multiple projects with multiple stakeholders simultaneously
Experience directly supervising full-time, contract staff, and external vendors
Excellent verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting in front of large groups
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability and personality to work collaboratively, accept responsibility, and motivate colleagues, volunteers and donors.
Well-organized with exceptional project and deadline management abilities. Easily adaptable to changing circumstances
Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment while providing quality customer service
Knowledge of low-income San Francisco populations, service providers and faith-based organizations preferred
Experience working with CMS tools (Drupal preferred)
