Communications and Development Intern – Got Your 6 – Washington, DC

Got Your 6 is a campaign that unites nonprofit, Hollywood, and government partners in collective action to empower veterans and strengthen communities. Got Your 6 believes that veterans are leaders, team builders, and problem solvers who have the unique potential to build stronger communities across the country. As a coalition, Got Your 6 works to integrate these perspectives into popular culture, engage veterans and civilians together to foster understanding, and empower veterans to lead here at home.

We seek dedicated individuals who are motivated to elevate a positive perspective of military veterans. Got Your 6 interns perform a variety of duties in the fields of communication and development—the intern in this position will work with both the Director of Communications and the Director of Development on multiple projects. The intern will be assigned tasks according to his or her interests.

Duties will include:

Communications

Partnership outreach and development
Tracking veteran affairs policy and media
Logistics for events
Social media and blogging
Copy for monthly newsletter
General office/administrative support

Development

Donor prospect research
Data entry and donor information management
Grant writing
Contributions to proposals, reports, newsletters, and donor correspondence
Fundraising analysis and trends

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

Excellent communication skills
Writing and editing skills
Understanding of digital media
Ability to multi-task and prioritize; focus on multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Comfortable working with a small team
A basic understanding of (or willingness to learn about) the military and veterans

COMPENSATION: Unpaid

DURATION: We ask for a 3-4 month commitment, either full-time (30-40 hours per week) or part-time (10-25 hours per week)
