Position summary
The Communications and Event Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the implementation, management, supervision and evaluation of all the organization’s communications and events in accordance with the standards set out by the organization. The Communications and Event Coordinator participates in strategic planning and budgeting initiatives in addition to problem solving. He/she works within the guidelines, policies and mission of the organization and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.
Duties and responsibilities
Work with President/CEO, Outreach and Event Director and Patient Services Manager to plan and implement all chapter events and educational programs.
Create communication strategies to promote the organization, its programs and events to the general public, our constituents, and donors
Work with the President/CEO, Outreach and Event Director and Patient Services Manager to identify, solicit, build and maximize corporate support including corporate teams, sponsorships (including in-kind) and partners.
Attend weekly departmental meetings to maintain effective communication.
Ensure adequate and qualified communications with constituents, volunteers, vendors, sponsors, etc.
Assist with development and recruitment strategies to increase the number of participants and dollars raised at LFA signature programs and events including Walk to End Lupus Now.
Assist with the implementation, management, supervision and evaluation of all activities of LFA programs and events in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization.
Assist in developing new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization.
Support the expansion of LFA programs and events and forming partnerships where appropriate.
Recruit, maintain, and grow relationships with program and event participants.
Perform and organize office operations and procedures related to Communication and Events such as answering telephones, filing systems, inventory management and other services as needed.
Maintain records to document program and events activities
Assist with management of any program or event data software
Support the Program Committee, Walk Committee and other committees as assigned.
When appropriate opportunities arise, participate in national and regional committees.
Attend local, regional and national meetings and workshops when necessary.
Qualifications and Requirements
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree with at least 1-2 years of communications and event planning experience, preferably in nonprofit
Previous experience with fundraising software a plus
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals including staff, volunteer, donors, vendors, constituents and sponsors
Strong problem solving and group work leadership skills
Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Willingness to travel as needed to perform job duties
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as necessary for events
Ability to carry up to 50 pounds
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
