Communications / Events Director – Thomas and Stacey Siebel Foundation – Redwood City, CA

The Thomas and Stacey Siebel Foundation is seeking a Director to manage Communications & Events for its Siebel Energy Institute and Siebel Scholars programs.

The Thomas and Stacey Siebel Foundation—a nonprofit, public benefit corporation—was established as a private foundation in 1996. Its mission is to support programs and organizations that work to improve the quality of life, environment, and education of its community members. The Siebel Foundation funds projects to support the homeless and underprivileged, education and research, public health, and alternative energy solutions. Two of its key programs include the Siebel Energy Institute and the Siebel Scholars Foundation.

Launched in 2015, the Siebel Energy Institute is a consortium for innovative and collaborative energy research. The Institute funds cooperative research grants to advance the science of data analytics, including statistical analysis and machine learning, to accelerate improvements in the safety, security, reliability, efficiency and environmental integrity of modern energy systems. Member universities include: Carnegie Mellon University; École Polytechnique; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Politecnico di Torino; Princeton University; University of California, Berkeley; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and The University of Tokyo. The Siebel Energy Institute fosters research collaboration among these premier universities and spurs the greatest minds in engineering and computer science to address the most pressing energy challenges of our time.

The Siebel Scholars program was founded in 2000 to recognize the most talented students at the world’s leading graduate schools of business, computer science, bioengineering, and energy science. These include: Carnegie Mellon University; École Polytechnique; Harvard University; Johns Hopkins University; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Northwestern University; Politecnico di Torino; Princeton University; Stanford University; Tsinghua University; University of California, Berkeley; University of California, San Diego; University of Chicago; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; University of Pennsylvania; and The University of Tokyo. Each year, 93 graduate students at the top of their class are selected based on academic excellence and leadership to receive a $35,000 award toward their final year of studies. Today, our active community of over 1,000 leaders serves as advisors to the Siebel Foundation and works collaboratively to find solutions to society’s most pressing problems.

Position Description & Responsibilities

The Siebel Foundation Communications & Events Director will develop and deliver a broad range of communications, events, and outreach programs to enhance the profile and visibility of the Siebel Energy Institute and Siebel Scholars brands, including but not limited to:

Communications
Developing and managing communications, branding, and public relations strategies
Drafting communications and marketing materials, such as newsletters, press releases, presentations, and collateral
Engaging online communities by drafting and posting social media updates, in-depth interviews, blogs, video uploads, and other regular website content updates
Managing relationships and communications with key stakeholders, including Directors, Board Members, and the media
Managing contact databases
Events
Organizing and executing various event programs—including Siebel Energy Institute conferences and topical workshops, as well as the annual Siebel Scholars Conference and thought-provoking regional events
Helping Foundation Directors manage the annual events plan and event logistics, including budgets, contract negotiations, vendor management, production, marketing, on-site coordination, marketing and outreach, and reports

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate is a detail-oriented, self-directed professional with sound judgment and a high level of integrity and work ethic.

Brings a minimum of 10+ years of experience in communications, public relations, strategic planning, branding, and large-scale events management
Possesses exceptional oral and written communication skills
Excels working in a small, dynamic, fast-paced environment
Proven ability to work independently and deliver high-quality work across multiple projects under aggressive timelines
Well organized with a keen attention to detail
Professional and collegial demeanor and consistently positive can-do attitude required
Proficient in crafting communications and cultivating relationships with targeted media outlets (writing samples required)
Proficient in social media communications, marketing, and metrics
Experience with online traffic analytics and reporting on campaign effectiveness
Experience with WordPress website design
Experience with MailChimp and Constant Contact
Experience with CRM and marketing automation software
Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator a plus
Experience with Final Cut Pro a plus
Bachelor’s degree required
Must have the ability to travel to program events (10-15/year), lift up to 40 lbs, and work evenings and weekends as needed

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and competitive in the industry.
