Communications / Grants Specialist – South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corp

The South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO)—one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most successful inner city community development agencies. SoBRO’s services include educational and vocational programs for adults, in-school and after-school programs for youth, affordable housing development, entrepreneurial development and business assistance programs, and a wide spectrum of commercial revitalization activities.

The Communications and Grant Specialist will assist in the generation and development of communications, website, and public relations messages and be responsible for activities as they pertain to government, corporation, and foundation proposals, donor and public relations, database management, and the development of partnerships with external organizations. The position offers the potential to grow and take on more responsibilities. Great opportunity to enhance your skills!! Specific tasks include:

Communications

Developing marketing materials on a variety of subjects relevant to SoBRO’s mission, including, but not limited to flyers, brochures, background documents, SoBRO’s quarterly newsletter, and other media communications;
Updating SoBRO’s website and social media content;
Working across the organization to ensure proper messaging is being executed that helps to meet SOBRO’s objectives.

Resource Development

Assisting in the preparation, coordination and submission of grant proposals and reports;
Maintaining written and verbal communications with government, corporate, foundation, individual donors, and program partners;
Conducting research on prospective government, corporate, and foundation funding opportunities;
Following social and economic policy trends as they pertain to SoBRO programs and initiatives;
Providing support for special events as needed including day-of support, direct mailings, and event logistics;
Assisting in the maintenance of the Development Team information and work flow;
As needed, serve as a liaison to granting agencies on behalf of the organization;
Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Interest/experience in non-profit work and community/economic development.
Excellent writing and communications skills and attention to detail. Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Excellent computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Adobe Creative Suite).
Ability to work well independently and in a team, organize and prioritize work, and multi-task.
Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure.
Experience in Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising database, preferred.
