Communications Intern – Docs For Tots – Melville, NY

Docs for Tots is seeking a self-starting, independent, motivated intern to work with our small and dedicated team! In addition to assisting with the general needs of the organization, the intern will have the opportunity to create and direct a plan for increasing awareness about our organization, including shaping our social media messaging, connecting us traditional and web based media outlets, and bolstering our fundraising capacities. The intern also has the opportunity to shadow our staff and learn more about their interests related to the field of public health, early education, and non-profit work. The intern would telecommute and therefore be able to suit the job to his or her needs!

Responsibilities include:

Crafting our messaging to the public.
Social media assistance including writing posts, responding to followers, and building an audience.
Drafting and coordinating an email newsletter.
Increasing awareness of and donations to our organization.
Building a traditional database of news contacts, blog contacts, and media professionals
Contacting and initiating relationships with news media outlets
Creating and distributing traditional and internet based press releases
Assisting Docs for Tots staff with project-related needs

Qualifications and Experience:

Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong written skills.
Prior PR/social media marketing experience.
Graphic design capabilities a plus.
Spanish-speaking candidates welcome!

10-20 hours a week depending on student availability and needs. Most of the tasks will be performed virtually, with the exception of travelling to various events to build content.
