Communications Manager – Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Los Angeles

Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Los Angeles (Advancing Justice-LA) seeks a communications professional to manage the day-to-day operations of Advancing Justice-LA’s communications unit. The communications manager will be a resourceful, highly motivated, detail-oriented self-starter who can work quickly and independently in a fast-paced, campaign-like environment. Under the supervision of Advancing Justice-LA’s Communications Director, the communications manager will be responsible for mass e-mail communications, website management, social media, and press conferences. This position will work closely with Advancing Justice-LA’s program staff, actively supporting the communications-related needs and priorities of individual units and program areas.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Draft, edit and distribute media advisories, organizational statements, event announcements, e-newsletters and other e-mail communications
Publish, monitor, and maintain all content on Advancing Justice-LA’s website ensuring site is current, clean and engaging; design and build-out additional pages and new content sections as needed
Write, post, and respond to content on Advancing Justice-LA’s social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube
Develop and implement online strategies to advance and build support for Advancing Justice-LA led advocacy and legislative campaigns
Monitor and track coverage of Advancing Justice-LA’s work in mainstream, ethnic, and new media
Use web, email, and social networking analytics to grow and expand Advancing Justice-LA’s digital following
Ensure uniformity and consistency in Advancing Justice-LA’s marketing and communication pieces
Organize press conferences in collaboration with Advancing Justice-LA staff
Update, maintain, and grow Advancing Justice-LA’s email and communications contacts and database lists

Qualifications:

Bachelor degree and/or other advanced degree and minimum 3 years of relevant work experience, ideally in a non-profit environment
Demonstrated leadership and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and anticipate workflow on multiple projects with moving targets and competing priorities
Exceptional writing, proofreading, and editing skills and ability to translate work to a broad range of audiences
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including good communication skills, listening skills and attitude
Demonstrated experience in using web-based content management systems (CMS) (e.g. WordPress, Drupal)
Demonstrated experience in using mass email marketing and other online communications platforms (e.g. NationBuilder, Mailchimp)
Strong skill base in using popular social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube
Experience using a media tracking service preferred but not required (e.g. Meltwater)
Experience using Google Analytics and Social Media analytics tools preferred but not required
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Illustrator preferred but not required
Commitment to social justice and underserved Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities desired
Bilingual in an Asian language a plus
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, when necessary
California driver’s license, insurance and access to a vehicle
