Inner City Law Center (ICLC) is a non-profit law firm serving the most vulnerable individuals and families in Los Angeles County. Founded on the fundamental principle that every person should always be treated with dignity and respect, ICLC provides legal representation and advocacy to thousands of homeless and working poor clients, focused on combating slum housing, preventing homelessness, and aiding homeless veterans. With 40 staff and 350+ volunteers, ICLC is the only provider of legal services headquartered on Skid Row and is widely recognized for its expertise on housing and homelessness.
Position Description: ICLC seeks a creative and talented Communications Manager to envision, develop and implement the dramatic enhancement of ICLC’s profile and reputation. ICLC does amazing work and achieves miracles for our clients on a regular basis. Our ability to serve additional clients is limited only by our fundraising, which in turn is limited by our profile. Most of those who know our work love and support us. We need many more people to know about what we do. A greater public presence would also help to make our public policy advocacy more effective. When anyone in Southern California thinks about low-income housing or homelessness related issues, we want them to think of ICLC.
ICLC’s first ever Communications Manager will create and implement a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations program that capitalizes on ICLC’s expertise and enhances ICLC’s image within key constituencies. Essential duties and responsibilities will include:
Developing a communications plan to significantly increase ICLC’s visibility in both traditional and social media.
Promoting and coordinating ICLC’s interaction with media.
Providing media coaching and helping staff to cultivate relationships with media.
Raising the profile of staff at ICLC as leaders and experts on housing and homelessness issues.
Overseeing management of ICLC’s website, e-blasts, and social media efforts.
Ensuring consistency of message and appearance across various materials.
Creating materials for external distribution.
Providing communications support to ICLC’s fundraising events.
Providing communications support to ICLC’s legal representation and public policy advocacy campaigns.
Leading other projects and coordinating other events as assigned.
Hiring Criteria: Strategic and creative, with excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to assume responsibility quickly and work independently and as part of a team. Ability to use good judgment, multitask and meet multiple deadlines. Demonstrated ability to navigate both traditional and electronic media. At least three years experience in marketing, communication, or public relations, preferably in the nonprofit sector. Commitment to ICLC’s mission and values.
Compensation: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits.
