The Communications Manager will develop, manage and help to implement communications strategy to support the Malala Fund’s investment and advocacy work. S/he will assist in overseeing media relations, internal/external communications, develop marketing and collateral materials and work closely with digital colleagues and external partners.
S/he will demonstrate a strong commitment to the Malala Fund’s mission, bring a collaborative, creative approach, and employ innovative strategies to support the design and integrated implementation of communications campaigns and partnerships.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Develop and implement a communications plan that is strategically sound, audience-focused, aligned to the organization’s priorities, of the highest standards, and deployed through the right traditional and new media channels for maximum impact.
Help to manage media relations with television, radio, print and new media.
Working with the Fund’s campaign teams, help lead targeted campaigns at key moments, including the release of He Named Me Malala, Malala Day and other campaigns.
Implement communications efforts to reach stakeholders and target populations for education, advocacy, and fundraising purposes.
Source and write content for fundraising, outreach, advocacy, and issue campaigns, and manage the design and production processes for those materials.
Evaluate effectiveness of communications and marketing strategies through metrics and qualitative analysis.
Be part of creating a productive, innovative and engaging culture.
Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
At least 3-5 years of experience in strategic communications, public relations (in-house or agency), project management or journalism.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Articulate, strong communicator with excellent writing skills and the ability to distill complex ideas into easily understood messages for various target audiences.
Familiarity with online and digital communications tools including, but not limited to, website content management, social media and e-mail marketing programs.
Public speaking and on-the-record spokesperson experience a plus.
Strong commitment to organizational mission.
Proven track record of building/managing relationships.
Specific experience in start-up or social entrepreneur organizations preferred but not required.
