Viva Farms is a non-profit business incubator that helps new farmers learn how to farm and experienced farm workers establish their own business while minimizing prohibitive start-up costs.We are seeking a full-time Development and Communications manager to ensure achievement of our fundraising and communication goals for Viva Farms.
The Development and Communications manager is a senior staff position ensuring achievement of the fundraising and communication goals of Viva Farms through planning and execution. The individual in this key role will work closely with the Executive Director and other senior staff to ensure adequate funding for organization operations and to coordinate the overall communications and marketing strategy for Viva Farms, including managing those funding needs that require direct involvement of ED and coordinating those efforts. He or she will lead the efforts in the design and implementation of a comprehensive and strategic development program including major and planned gift donor development, grant writing, special events management and special campaigns.
Responsibilities
In conjunction with the Executive Director and Operations Director and in consultation with the Board, develop and implement a strategic vision and written development plan for increasing revenues from individuals, grant sources, foundations, and Viva revenue sources (wholesale and farm stand).
Assist ED in personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of potential leadership and major gift donors including: individual donors, and family foundations, and grant writing.
Develop communication strategies and materials, including brochures, newsletters, direct mail, advertising, website content and events, to promote the mission and projects of Viva Farms and attract new farmers.
In conjunction with the Executive Director and other senior management, develop relationships with community leadership with focus on building collaborative relationships.
Coordinate with and support relevant staff to maximize effectiveness of all aspects of operations from a communications standpoint.
Keep abreast of current development trends through continuing education and community involvement.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience managing development, grant writing and fundraising efforts of a non-profit organization.
Familiarity with available federal, regional, and local grants relating to small-scale agriculture and/or socially disadvantaged populations.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Proven capacity to develop and manage relationships with partners.
Ability to multitask, work under tight deadlines and self-manage time and workflow in order to maximize efficiency.
Skilled in Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Documents, and internet research. Comfortable using Adobe products for design and layout. Proficiency in Quickbooks a plus.
Must demonstrate a commitment to the mission of Viva Farms.
Must be a positive team player and have a great sense of humor.
Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish a plus.
