Development Officer – Major Gifts – The Trevor Project – West Hollywood, CA

The Development Officer-Major Giftsis a newly created position for our West Hollywood or New York City office, and primarily responsible for planning and revenue generation within the starting tier of The Trevor Project’s new major giving program, The Impact Circle. The Development Officer-Major Gifts will work closely with the Associate Development Director and Major Gifts Officer to help develop strategies that move current Friends of Trevor supporters at the $500 -$1199 level into the Impact Circle program. Ongoing programmatic needs include proactive donor engagement planning, relationship management, event fundraising and formal system-wide recognition and renewal planning. The Development Officer- Annual Giftsengages in and helps facilitates appropriate Board and Volunteer fundraising opportunities, and supports third party events or projects as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Develop strategies, incentives and activities that move current Friends of Trevor donors into the Impact Circle.

Provide in office stewardship for Impact Circle Members at the $1200 level that includes acknowledgement, engagement and renewal. [JM1]
Identify, cultivate, solicit, secure and retain annual gifts of $1200 nationwide.
In collaboration with the development team, plan Impact Circle stewardship and events that result in 80% renewal rates, new and increased membership.
Work with the Associate Director of Development to incorporate major donor planning with the department’s other fundraising activities nationwide.
Manage an existing portfolio of approximately 100 $500-$1,199 individual donors with a goal to have them increase their level of giving moving towards Impact Circle giving.
Steward an existing portfolio of approx. 50 $1200 donors for renewal and possibly move into next level of giving.
Identify moves management opportunities for Development Team and/or other staff in such stewardship as appropriate (e.g. accompanying on donor visits, providing focus area specific updates).
Work closely with administrative staff to strengthen data collection systems.
Working continuously with administrative staff to (1) identify loss prevention opportunities due to back end/database inefficiencies and to (2) explore methods to generate new revenue through industry best practices in online giving.
Input, update, and/or process transactions in Raisers Edge and Salesforce as needed.
Resolve donor concerns swiftly and coordinate across/escalate within the organization as appropriate.
Assist with the development of corporate partnerships through engagement of key individual employees.
Develop close relationships with prominent volunteers and, community leaders.
Working with Events Manager to identify opportunities for Major Impact Circle members from the Ambassador City volunteers.
Collaborate with other departments on the creation of development communications such as quarterly newsletters, quarterly online donor listings, and quarterly donor “spotlight” articles, an annual report, to name a few.
Attend key third party fundraising events for the purpose of meeting hosts and/or providing remarks.
Other duties as assigned by Associate Director of Development.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job.

2 – 4 years of fundraising experience, with special emphasis placed on donor relations, prospecting, membership and annual funds.
College degree or equivalent education and work experience.
Proven track record of securing gifts through face-to-face meetings, networking events, and phone solicitation.
Dedication to teamwork.
Comfort and poise in working with high level donors and philanthropists.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially public speaking and presenting abilities.
Detail-oriented and highly organized with timely follow-through.
Self-starter. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Standard office computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets.
Working knowledge of the Los Angeles/San Francisco/Chicago and/or New York City LGBT philanthropic communities a plus.
Experience with proposals and grant writing a plus.
Experience with Salesforce or equivalent donor software a plus.
Dedication to the mission and goals of The Trevor Project and ability to communicate that dedication.
Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth.

Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as required.
