Digital Communications Manager – Ploughshares Fund – San Francisco, CA

We are looking for a full-time Digital Communications Manager to play a critical role in helping Ploughshares Fund move closer to its ultimate goal of eliminating the threat posed by nuclear weapons. This new position provides a unique opportunity for a creative communications professional to apply their social media and digital design skills towards making the world a safer place. The Digital Communications Manager will be part of a growing Communications team working towards building a new generation of supporters passionate about global nuclear security in the 21st Century.

Position Summary

The Digital Communications Manager will help amplify Ploughshares Fund’s brand by expanding its online presence and target audience, thereby expanding its supporter base and the impact of its campaign work. Responsibilities and objectives will include: designing creative content, including infographics, both for the website and digital sharing; developing and implementing social media strategies and campaigns; interacting with innovative media spaces in order to reach new audiences; managing the Ploughshares Fund website; expanding Ploughshares Fund staff’s digital footprint; and collaborating with the development team on executing creative, electronic fundraising projects.

Functions and Responsibilities

Manage Plougshares Fund’s social media channels with a goal of driving traffic back to the PF website;
Design comprehensive digital media strategies in support of short, medium and longterm goals including brand-building and campaign initiatives;
Collaborate with the development team in creating and executing electronic fundraising initiatives;
Expand social media audiences on existing channels and identify additional ones in which to engage and cultivate new target audiences;

Engage new innovative media spaces such as BuzzFeed, Vox, Ryot, Mashable, Upworthy, the Guardian online, etc., to ensure that Ploughshares Fund is reaching younger demographics where they are most active and engaged;

Design and promote shareable, ‘snackable’ creative content including infographics and other visual properties;
Manage and create compelling new content for the the Ploughshares Fund website, and liaise with developers and designers as needed to maintain or upgrade the site; and
Help key staff expand their online presence by providing social media and other digital media training and guidance.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communication, graphic design or other relevant area of study;
A minimum of 3-5 years working in digital communications, social media strategy & management, website management, infographic design and/or similar field; 5-7 years preferred;
Proven background managing and expanding audiences on leading social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Flickr, YouTube, Pinterest;
Proficient in social media management and analytic tools like Hootsuite Pro & Social Flow;
Proficient in web site management tools such as Drupal and online marketing tools such as Blackbaud’s Luminate (Convio);
Proficient in SEO techniques & tools such as Google Adwords;
Solid data visualization architecture skills, including proven ability to design and build shareable, ‘snackable’ content; advanced skills preferred;
HTML and InDesign proficiency preferred;
Proficiency in Photoshop and digital video editing tools preferred;
Experience working with Visual.ly preferred;
Familiarity with donor management software like Raiser’s Edge preferred;
Background or interest in international relations, global security and philanthropy; and
Experience successfully implementing digital media strategy in support of progressive, socially responsible campaign, mission, foundation or nonprofit preferred.

In addition to possessing these qualifications, the ideal candidate will be creative, organized, strategic and collaborative. He/she must be a self-starter with a sense of urgency and a bias toward execution. Must have ability to be flexible and open to new ideas.
