Digital Strategist – 1,000 Days – Washington, DC

POSITION SUMMARY

1,000 Days is seeking a Digital Strategist who loves working in 140 characters or less, strives to make complex issues easily digestible, and has an appetite for entrepreneurship. The Digital Strategist is responsible for creating and implementing 1,000 Days’ marketing and brand communications strategies via various digital channels, including website, social media and email-marketing platforms. The Digital Strategist is instrumental to 1,000 Days’ communications efforts, providing a combination of creative, dynamic and strategic planning as well as day-to-day execution.

1,000 Days is the leading organization working in the U.S. and around the world to champion improved nutrition for mothers and children during the critical window from pregnancy through age two. The 1,000 Days Partnership was launched in 2010 with the support of the U.S. Government, the Government of Ireland, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and several non-profit partners to promote greater action and investment in maternal and young child nutrition. Since then, 1,000 Days has mobilized advocates, thought-leaders, policymakers and its network of over 80 partners in order to improve nutrition for women and children in the U.S. and throughout the world.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the development of 1,000 Days’ online communications strategy and brand presence.

Manage and implement 1,000 Days online communications strategy, including crafting audience-specific messaging, prioritizing key online communications channels, and developing digital tools and tactics.

Curate and create 1,000 Days’ digital content for various channels, including the website, blog, e-newsletter and social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.).

Craft and manage a strategic and dynamic editorial calendar.

Lead 1,000 Days’ online marketing efforts, including Google Ads and through Facebook and Twitter.

Track, measure and report on key digital communications metrics on a regular basis, such as web hits, social media growth, email open-rates, etc.

Support the 1,000 Days team with other online communications needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors Degree in communications or a related field

3 or more years work experience in online communications, public relations, or social media marketing

Excellent writing, editing and verbal communications skills

Experienced in curating, developing and managing online content via websites, social media and email

Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple work streams and relationships

Experience using content management systems (e.g. WordPress), email marketing systems (e.g. Mail Chimp), and website and social media tools (e.g. Hootsuite, Google Analytics) required

Experience using design software such as Photoshop and InDesign required.

Experience developing and implementing a communications strategy is preferred

Demonstrated capacity to work with diverse actors and organizations

Ability to work both collaboratively in a team-based environment, and independently
