Position Summary:
The Director of Development is the chief major gift officer for the College. She/He works closely with the Dean, senior administration and faculty, and is responsible for strategic planning and implementation of the College’s comprehensive development program and fundraising plan. The position reports to the Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement, and is also evaluated by the College Dean.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
A minimum of 5 years experience working in fundraising.
Proven ability to create, implement, and successfully complete individual cultivation and solicitation strategies for donations in excess of $50,000.
Proven ability to work with Deans and faculty to create funding proposals and college-level fundraising strategies.
Experience in forming and supporting advisory boards, using best practices, in their fundraising efforts.
Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.
Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt’s core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
A positive and professional demeanor is a must.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Duty and Responsibility:
Serve as fundraiser for the largest college in the University.
Develop a strategic development plan for the college, in consultation with the Dean, senior college administration, and faculty.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and close major gift prospects.
Maintain a portfolio of a minimum of 100 prospects.
Assist Dean and faculty in forming and supporting advisory boards in their fundraising efforts.
Serve as a resource to the College about fundraising methods and best practices.
Work with dean, department chairs, faculty, and staff to develop funding proposals.
Establish productive relationships with donors and prospects, to maintain and grow College programs.
Plan and attend college-specific events to recruit and retain donors.
Work collaboratively with fundraising staff in the Office of Institutional Advancement to serve the needs of the College and the University.
Attend selected events across all Colleges, and across the University.
Keep informed about national and local fundraising trends and practices.
Work with Institutional Advancement leaders and staff to create and implement an integrated strategic development plan.
Maintain updated notes, produce reports, and attend internal meetings.
